Yup squeakes still insta-flip, HO'ed a N1K (Behindya) today in Mossie, unfortunately only had mgs left, and for obviously reasons the N1K misses entirely, immediately checked six as after it went past, head to head, was 400d and slowly losing ground.

Either was another N1K or it can still 180 degree within 400D and lose virtually no E.  Which as everyone with any idea of physics knows is absolute BS.

When I asked him how he did it, no answer.

N1k is still the same old dangerous turn&burn fighter as before.

Only difference is now n1k pilot can choose to bleed some E with intentional tight pulls on the stick. If he wants to keep E, he keeps it low-g and it still loops fast like the old n1k did.

I found out that the change in n1k helps bounces and fast closure encounters, I got a lot less overshoots with the new n1ki. On the other hand I could still keep 400mph up easy when it was necessary (following a mossie in a dive for example.)

I'm relieved to see that the N1K2 still offers fun for the masses.

I would have been considerably put out if the masses had been forced into P-51Ds or La-7s. Spitfire MkIXs I could have delt with.

this might be a scary thought

but what if the n1k is actually THAT good?

hey, just a thought. I dont have a problem killing them. Shot down *4* yesterday in a 109G10, and it seemed to me at the time that the nikki had lost a lot of balls.

just gotta learn it's weakness, thats all.

Errr actually I was wrong, still got wild acceleration but something has changed, very subtle but its definitely easier to kill TnB imo.  It actually feels like you fighting a normal plane like spit 9 kinda.

maybe wrong?

I dont know if it was a piece of bad flying or not but i got into a turnfight with a nik whilst flying the hurricane with 40mm for the first time.
I chased him round and round whilst other nerds tried to pick me off by diving into our turn fight but luckily they were poor shots so i continued the sustained turn fight.I could easily pull a little harder evry now and then to get the lead shot with mgs.
Eventualy the nik broke because i finally got the right lead on him.He was out of sight under my nose when the pings appeared in my dash board signifying hits on him.As he climbed an went to break left i fired a single burst with the 40mm from @ 400 yards and saw 2 hits one on the tail and one on the wing.NOTHING for the breifest moment then off came his wing and off came his tail.
finally a fight with a nik that had him panicking in the turn!
I didnt have a clue that the hurricane could outurn a nik, and im still not sure if it 'should' be able to given equal pilot ability but hell i enjoyed it! I was stalling at the point where the mgs were on target in the lead shot but i could re initiate the turn follow the nik round build up speed, pull harder again , take the snap lead shot, fall back into the chase.
The king of dweeb is dead. Finally it seemed to me the nik was flying in a predictable manner. no reverses at speed with no loss of e/speed. A predictable behaviour at last.

hazed,

The Hurricane's only real flight strength is its small turn radius.  The Hurri has lighter wing loading than the N1K2 by a fair bit, IIRC.

The volume level in the MA these days seems to suggest that the N1K is more acceptable, though that could just be that they aren't common due to all the other cool alternatives.

Hurricane IIc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
