Hortlund. One thing I learned from living abroad for a few years is to take with a pinch of salt the way one country reports the news of another.

Still nothing on the BBC about the false Venezualen passport, or any of the BBC radio stations I periodically tune to at work. Usually they pick this sort of thing up very quickly. They have 24hr news broadcasting and are desperate to fill air-time.

In the report about the 4 arrested men: "A spokesman said no further details were being released at present."

Well, sooner or later we will find out who is right. :)

I have complete confidence in our news reporting agencies in Sweden though.

What they said on the radio this morning was roughly this:

The grenade guy at Gatwick was caught trying to enter the UK with a grenade in his luggage. That means the grenade somehow made it through the security check in Venezuela. At first no one thought it was terror related, but then it turned out his passport was fake. He is not a latino. Right now they are trying to find out his true nationality. Indonesian or Bangladesh is the latest info/rumor.

The police were quizzed about the nationality of the suspect with the live grenade. They refuse to confirm or deny his nationality (as of 0800 utc).

His full name and nationality will be released when he is charged with a crime. until that point your news reports are speculation. It may be informed speculation, but it is speculation nevertheless.

Dude...since everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty, the nationality of the 9-11 hijackers should be "speculation" according to your theory.

All news reporting is speculation..is that what you are saying? fine.

No, I'm not, I'm saying the mans nationality is not known, only speculated upon,  until the Police tell us what is is.

The Law Enforcement authorities released the names and the nationalities of the 911 hijackers to the press. Unless the press have a very good reason to do so, they do not assume the LEAs are lying, and consider them to be the final authority on the subject.

re: London airports, the LEAs have *not* released the name or nationality of the man who 'is helping them with their enquiries'. Until it does so the man's nationality is a matter for speculation, guessing, wishing etc.

And guess what. He is a Venezualan national (grenade man).

Terminal 2 reopened after scare.

The thing is if you clamp right down on security at any busy international airport you'll probably uncover a lot more daily smuggling, guns in transit, people up to no good, suspicious packages, security breaches and so on than you would normally.

If 'vigilance' goes up %500, then you can expect the detection of workaday 'bad things' to go up too. So whilst this is in operation, there will be a lot of discoveries above and beyond the specific Al-Quaeda threat.

Expect more 'minor' alarms as long as this continues. One hopes the 'major' alarm will be averted.
