Great...I hope the police can come out with a vest that can stop a 50 caliber slug from close range.

Any level 3 vest will stop it, especially if it hits the trauma plate.

.50 AE has been around in handguns for almost a decade, this is nothing really new.

BTW Sirloin, the .357 Sig, found commonly in many Sig pistols, like those used by the FBI, Secret Service, and "apparently" the Air Marshal service (I know the SigArms instructor who teaches them, he taught a course at our school) will rip through any level 2 vest, which is typically what most cops use.  .357 sig isn't an overly large bullet, but it's travelling at warp speed.

kills on one end and wounds at the other.

btw- a .22 mag will go through most vests.  and while many of your BFG's (Big fluff'n Gun- desert eagle .50 ae, .454 casul, ect) may not go through a vest, they really don't need to go into your organs when chunks of your ribs are.

And I'm sure all the crackheads will be saving up the $900+ it'll take to buy it.  And of course the want to carry around an 8.5 inch 72 ounce pistol.

Crew-served handgun.

It's a gimick that'll get most of it's use in movies, "You want to kill the super badguy?  Well, you need a S&W .50 pistol."

Quick question for you gun people please,

good pistol for person with small hands and weak wrists? (would be willing to wear a brace for long practice sessions)

but generally something that won't snap my hand off from recoil when fired? Also very reliable?

9mm is a great gun. little recoil, enough power to do the job.  plus if you know someone who loads their own rounds they can load you shells with less recoil.  often without suffering performance.

S&W makes a 'lady smith' in 9mm it's very simular to a 6906 but it has a much smaller grip (straight stack clip instead of stagered so you sacrofice mag. capacity)  but they are good quality and great for people with small hands.
the synthetic grips even come in pastel colors

personal note to S&W - please don't 'sissy up' an otherwise fine gun.  it's just not right.

I could just buy ammo with less recoil for it then?

(don't want to have to 'know someone' to load my gun for me, that's kinda sucky)

doh as it would so happen someone is asking the same question on agw so looking there as well:

store bought ammo is fairly generic.  oten with just changing powders you can bring recoil way down.  for instance with for a 9mm I prefere 'blue dot' powder.  I can get about 2100fps without running it too hot. on the other hand 'red dot' will give you much more recoil at under 1000 fps.

loading your own is not at all hard.  virtually anyone with a reasonable attention span and the ability to follow instructions can do it cheap and easy

Ya I used to load my own M16, I can't see loading a pistol being a huge task :)

Kanth, if its self defence that is your reason, and it is a handgun that you are contmeplating, I suggest a 38 special revolver, double action only.  If it is a conceal carry gun then a lady smith or equivelant would work well. However the recoil can be fairly sharp in the light weight models.  It really depends on how tolerant you would be  to the recaoil and report.  I would stay away from auto loaders unless you become an avid shooter and and want to advance to something more versatile.

have fun!
