Ah, the thought police arrive again, just in time to refute anything that even remotely resembles "criticism" of the world's ONLY "perfect" sim

You're off by quite a ways and one digit on the WB version, btw

Points not valid because I have the temerity to ever question the path of progress of AH, is that it?  Actually, if a few of the things I dislike were remedied, I'm fairly sure I'd become a customer.

OTOH, you can't seem to get past your unfailing devotion to "your game" to even be bothered with areas of potential improvement, because, apparently, you don't think there ARE any areas that can be improved.

If HTC is happy with the customer base they have now, so be it.  Somehow I suspect they're interested in expanding it.  That makes ME a potential customer.  Ignore me at your own risk then.  You've never seen me say, nor will you see me say, that this isn't a great sim.  You WILL see me question the issues that are important to me.  If HTC needs to make the sim more accessible to "less demanding" players, then I'm VERY interested in the path they plan to take, because in some cases that will directly conflict with what I expect in a sim.

You think HTC is infallible, and whatever they choose to give you must automatically be wonderful.  I think six guys don't have unlimited programming resources, and when I see them expend those resources on "cute" features when there are other "core" features that still need attention, I'm gonna raise questions to see whether they want MY business, or someone else's.

You can't handle that, it's your problem, not mine.

Wasn't this supposed to be about padlock views?

Well, but ....sheesh Jedi... The post you made had several points you that were patently in error wrt to the padlock  that HTC are implementing. Did you even bother to read Pyro's explanation before getting all worked up about it?

It's amazing how many innacuracies are occuring about this. This thing is basically just an automated view switcher... NOT the God-Like padlock of other sims. ... Man.... HTC... Please let us know how targets are designated. That's the only outstanding issue here.

The thing about padlock is I've seen several padlocks that will track the bandit even when you can't see it.  You get an arrow on the screen that points at it no matter where it is.  This is where my antipadlock bias comes from.  And dinnae forget the ones that let you scroll targets and effectively handle your SA for you.

Nothing about the way I understand (from Pyro's and HT's descriptions) scares me about the padlock in AH.  I'm all for it as a matter of fact.  There will be plenty of people to turn on the padlock and go to saddle up who won't see me coming.

Will I use it?  Maybe.  I'll deffinately try it once or twice.  It seems all it will do for me is allow me to take my hand off the keypad while it's engaged, unless the bandit flies off and I loose the lock (which means the hand is back on the keypad =)

Hi Jedi

Actually, since I would like to see you flying with us in AH, I'm interested in what those five things are that are keeping you from opening an account. I can't recall anything that WB has that AH doesn't(if we're talking "features" and not arenas).

From what I read from Pyro, this isn't going to be the same type of padlock view you'd find in any of those boxed sims. Did you read the post where Pyro explained it?

Anyway, hope to see you in AH some day.

Hi CavemanJ actually i have been flying in the free player games a little, but under a name i used for a joke and got stuck with when free 2 weeks ran out.
I have made a promise to a wingie to pay from this coming Monday to see how my bank balance suffers after a month
OK now to padlock, i agree with all the padlock concerns relating to being able to track through wings, engines or any other hard point.
But coming from EAW and using padlock a lot i know that anybody can use padlock but to be able to use it effectively requires far more skill than some of you seem to credit. The skill comes from learning NOT to lose track of your orientation and your SA when in padlock.
Also getting target fixation is not exclusively a padlock related fault it happens to many people no matter what views you use, and if you care to deny that point then i will justifiably call anybody a liar
Padlock is just another tool to use there are times and places to use it sure but anybody who relies on any one tool when so many are on offer, already has one foot in the grave.
Besides i figure most of the worries over the AH padlock will be groundless from the descriptions i have seen of it so far.

Damn i was gonna post on but the wife has ordered me away from the comp !

From what I've heard the padlock will only kick in if your looking in the general direction of the bandit and will break padlock when not visible (similar to realistic padlocking in Falcon 4.0).

I always thought the Padlock was crappy in EAW.... way too easy (I guess that's why LLv34 like it)

"Oh no, another Crap Pilot" - Camo.
"Yes certainly looks like they are piling the Crap-pilots up again now" - Snefens.

Lol the LLv34 seem to be getting worried

Crap pilots rule..... lol

hmmm.. less skill to use fixed view...  lessee... hit a button once and not worry about having to track the target anymore... or no button and having to move your views around to track the target in addition to checking 6 and glancing at the dash to maintain good SA
I'd say the no skill is the padlock

And Cav, how come you ain't flying with us?  One of these days I'm gonna really bug Widow for a little webspace

Yeah Cavy, what you scared of? When padlock is implemented you can always stick with your outdated skilless fixed views, nobody says you have to use it (give the option and let the user decide is what I say).

I just hope you'll be able to watch me going after a new victim in fixed views, while you're going down in smoke after I've dealt with you

We don't need a Padlock vs. Fixed Views war here.

Lets just let it go and see what happens. Screaming at each other and taunting each other is not going to help anything.

Yep Cavey i  agree, but some seem to assume that padlock of any kind will turn all newbies into unbeatable supermen.
It will not its the accumulation of combat knowledge, interpretation of spatial relationships and intimate knowledge of your aircraft that make a winner.
Oh yes and a better conn than your opponent
Talking of which those of you who have posted before of having pings of about 60 or similar to HT well.... If you feel burning sensations it will be me playing with HUGE F/O needles and effigys    I look at my 19 hop 250 ping connects to HT and cant help but be envious.

Sorry Cavy I catch your drift now.....

To all that can't handle padlock........ Listen to what Cav says, at times he flies better than I what I do... at times (I'm sure I was incorrectly grammatically correct back there, but what the hell. This is probably read by Americans who think they invented the English language... "What, my house is as old as your European settlement of the New World?"........ lol

God, I can't wait untill padlocks up 'n running........ At the moment I can do the talk, but I wanna show you (disbelievers) I can do the walk...... (to those who aint met me yet online).

Cav that's because we've all seen padlocks that simply won't loose thier lock and always point at the target.  A padlock like that almost negates the value of advanced ACM to make your attacker loose sight of you and overshoot so you can kill him.
But like I said, the way they described it, I dinnae think my antipadlock bias will have any problems with this one

Hehehee, when I create my account I'll be using an old Air Warrior handle from over 11 years ago (of course I'll tell you who I am Cav). I wonder if any of the old crew will spot me (lol, or even remember me?).

Btw, I guess it's pretty obvious I've done the fixed view thing in the past, hence the reason I feel quite comfortable taking the piss out of those who don't know any better
