I calculate the runways on a 3-runway triangular field to be about 3400 feet long each, which is not, in my opinion, adequate for a heavily loaded bomber.

ok, ok, ok.  HT, give us tunnels so we can fly through the mountains!  Better?  ;)

P.S.  Chainsaws fitted as underwing stores?

Well I for one dont think you should limit heavy bombers to only certain fields.  If a guy wants to learn how to take a bomber off on a short runway and wants to take the chance in doing so, then let him.  I can get a Lanc with 75% fuel and 14k bombs off of the ground in plenty of time to clear the trees as it is now....its just takes practice.

You can sling?!!!  go offline go to Mindanao, field 44, takeoff to the north and film it please!! with 14k eggs and 75% fuel.

In the WW buffs did not use front line bases, which were typically rough, small, and didn't contain the facilities to support the heavies. I think its not unrealistic to have dedicated buff fields in AH either.

Ok I will.  But first question...is there a mountain or hill at the end of that runway?  And the second would be...what email address would you like me to send the film to?   :D

SKurj

Not a bad idea at all, but i think it would be more practical to have fighters also at the Buff bases. Other wise they would be the most targeted easy to take over bases.

Atleast give us longer run ways so i dont have to here another person whine for 20 minutes because they crashed a 262 into the trees on take off.

Well with the trees everywhere, you can't even ditch.....  :(  Had a Lanc with a few popped engines and if it weren't for the Jonny Appleseed Terrain, I mighta had a place to set her down   :D

FFS.  This aint about limiting bombers to rear bases, I mean after all what happens when the frontline moves forward?  Buffs would have a major long flight.....nah, wouldnt work.

Now get this:  THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD IS TO SHOW HT THAT WE, THE COMMUNITY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WOULD LIKE LONGER RUNWAYS.

Not all of em, just some.  Sling is right, if ya wanna try and take off from a short runway then more power to ya.......it is possible, it's just a pain in the arse.

Exactly Swoop...I am not saying that we dont need[/i] longer runways, I am just saying that I would hate to see bombers relegated to just certain fields.
