Its clear that this board is a microcosm of world views on the war/protestors/Saddam etc...  great. debate and dissent are treasured rights.  so what will all the millions who marched in protest against the war say when, say, Berlin or D.C. or London is half blown away by a suitcase A-bomb from Saddam's toychest? will these people still march against the evil allies? Will these people even admit to marching after a massive Atomic or bio attack on a major population? Just like that silly joke: "a conservative is a liberal who was robbed last night" will the protestors channel their energy differently?  thoughts?

Hawk i can understand what u want to say here but a war vs. Iraq wont change nothing. The basic materials for lets say dirty bombs will come from the old GUS states not the Iraq.

I think the majority of the protesters would support a retaliatory strike in the event of a clearly attributed attack, with the exception of a few dyed in the wool quaker pacifists.

the difference is between retaliatory and pre-emptive military action.

The same would be true I hope, if a Saudi organisation planted a suitcase A-bomb in NYC...

The protestors already forgot the strike onn the WTC. It didn't involve suitcase bombs but killed those 2000+ folks easily enough. We didn't fire the first shot, they did. We cannot be limited to just those on the planes that performed the hijacking. We do have to go after those tat help support  those types of actions. We didn't have any "preemptive strikes" going prior to 9/11, perhaps it is past time we started having them now.

I think the protestors point is that not only did it not involve suitcase bombs, it didn't involve Iraqis either.

The protestors don't see a clear connection between the attacks of 911 and the government of Iraq.
