70 Fps... man you haven't seen anything yet!  Turn that FSAA on!

Can you get 4X FSAA to work without any hassles?  Others have reported some "issues" with FSAA running.  A squad mate tested at about 40 FPS at 4X FSAA though, so if the graphical anomalies get sorted out with drivers I'm buying one.

Does it support 32 bit color?

Yeah pyro. Basically, it is the speed of 2 V3 3500s, SLI'd together, but it supports 32 bit color and large textures. Since its framerate is so large it can perform anti-ailaising to make the picture look better..

I hate to do this to this thread, but the 700K worth of files really show the Voodoo5 off. These are both taken at 1024 32 bit.

Here's the V5500 without FSAA-

Hers the V5500 WITH FSAA-

My Celery 300A O/C to 450 acts up pretty bad in Aces High with the FSAA, but overall the graphics ARE stunning. Im getting huge framerates, and the whole sim is much better.
NCR3 has to be seen, and AH really looks DIFFRENT.

Time for a 600E Coppermine to O/C to 790mhz- With 1.3..can't wait.

Funny thing is, the new GeForce GTS's beat the Voodoo5 by 20 FPS in tests. Wonder if they look as sweet?

Frame rates are FAR lower with Athlons..the first drivers came out without any 3DNow optimization at all. Hopefully they will be much improved in the coming months.

I have an Athlon 500 and am not anywhere close to the FRs above (taking into account clock speed differences too)...4x looks like it will be unplayable, but boy, 2x is sweet.

The FSAA seems to correct a lot of the AH terrain shimmer.

Anyway, it was an upgrade from a Banshee, so I think I'll finally start playing AH seriously :-)

Ok these new cards have really gotten my attention,

The question I have is about this AGP 1x 2x 3x 4x thingy.  What exactly does it mean and how do I tell if my motherboard supports it.

My current system is Abit BX-6r2 with Celron 300a@450 mhz.  128 meg pc 100 ram and Viper 550.  Can I use all the bells and whistles with these new boards?

Sharky,

I think your current BX based board will only do 2X AGP.  Currently however, most video cards are not limited by the AGP bus speed, so tests I have seen show only tiny improvements between 2X and 4X AGP.

Bottom line for me is FSAA.  The GeForce can't do 4X FSAA with acceptable framerates, and even if it does 3DFX's implementation looks better from all the reviews I have read.  If you are a quake head who needs 100 fps, a GeForce 2 is likely a better choice.  For we simmers though, with a decent processor I think the V5 will run lots of our games at 4X Full Screen Anti-Aliasing.  That just looks plain stunning, and the first card that can deliver 1024x768 with FSAA and playable framerates is what I'm upgrading too.  The V5 5500 does FSAA best, so it's the one at the moment, but I'm waiting for the next driver cycle to see if they work the minor issues out first.

I will soon have my GeoForce 2 GT with DDR; I will give a report on FSAA then. I think (based on what I have read) FSAA between the two cards will be more dependent on how the software is written than anything else (as the Voodoo and GeoForce cards take different approaches to the problem).

Russ is in Houston till friday so I'm his answering service,
He has an 800mhz Athlon and the system runs the Voodoo quite well, he runs at 4xFSAA in the game.
For flight sims there is no other card to choose from for this level of graphics and here is where the FSAA was ment to be, all those who said the full screen anti alliasing didn't matter don't fly Aces High and will miss 1.03 in all its glory.
I cancled my order when they delayed the 5500 fearing 3dfx was heading into troubled waters but after seeing the cards end results I'm getting it.
The sales results I saw today have no competition from the few buggy GTS boards sold so far, check it out your self, if you play quake and need 105 frames instead of 95 the GTS is your baby I guess.
Lastly head over to www.reactorcritical.com/cards.shtml  and you can get a 5500 for 279.00 bucks anyone find a cheaper place post it.
