Hiya Monk.

Nope. But I've had some moments when the rage came back. That lil hot point deep inside that slows down time, makes your senses all super acute and you stand a hair's beadth away from berserk.

It's one reason I don't drink.

...and definately uncool to be 10nm from a tanker and hearing that seeker during popup.

'Course in '86 the PG was not a "war zone".

No idea at the time... keeping score wasn't high on our priority list. :)

Watched a ship sink and listened to panicked calls over bridge to bridge while a tanker was hit by Iraqi fighters, though.

Yeah... too funny on the war zone thing... On my 3rd trip to the Gulf, we all got expeditionary medals and it was probably quieter then than the two previous.

Desert Storm- Munitions loader for the 4404 Provisional Bomb Wing. My unit dropped millions of pounds of bombs on Iraqi targets. Then, DESERT THIS, DESERT THAT, NORTHEN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, PROVIDE COMFORT.  Lookslike there is more to come in the near future, I won't be on the tip of the spear, so to speak.

Raubvogel, I have read much about helicopter gunners in Vietnam.  It is a fascinating subject to me.  If you don't mind, could you tell what some of your duties were, and perhaps tell what a routine mission was like for you in the Gulf?

Honestly it wouldn't be right to compare my experiences to the crewmen in Vietnam. Mine lasted 3 days, we had overwhelming superiority. Saw more Iraqis trying to surrender than I did Iraqis trying to fight. Only exchanged a few rounds, went "home" to a tent every night. I flew on UH-1Hs in an assault helicopter battalion. Don't let the name fool you, we didn't assault toejam. Blackhawks got most of the press and pictures, but I think there were actually more Hueys still flying over there. Great aircraft, I miss flying on it.

I respect the crap those guys went through in SE Asia, their stories deserve to be heard far more than mine.

I could give you some stories from SE Asia from my wife, they're kind of gruesome though. I also picked up some from Hang Ngor - the guy from The Killing Fields movie - he came over here twice before he died.

The amazing thing is for someone who abhors weapons, war movies, or any violence, she is absolutely pro-kicking-Saddams butt. Guess she feels for the Iraqi's who suffer at his hands.

If the little bastard had the fortitude to give an actual address, i'd finance your airfare, scholz.  Its little salamanders like him that make me favor the draft, not as though it is an issue for myself for if it was instituted, i'd do all i could to finish my education (Though, if I am picked, I am picked and I go.  Hopefully having a logbook may get me a flying job) and join the navy in hopes of a fighter/attack squadron flight slot.  I'd love for this little [htc would remove this combination of words with haste.] to not have the option for a discharge on any grounds just to watch him squirm.  I wouldn't wish 28Sweep into any mans foxhole, but his own.

Get an address, i'll get it checked out, i'll provide airfare.  If anyone else would drop some change into this coffee can it too is welcome.
