Anybody know what this is??
« on: February 17, 2003, 12:24:59 PM »
Sorry, no picture just a description.  Was watching the
history cahnnel the other nite about the battle of the bulge, and
definately saw a MRL.  Multiple rocket launcher.  It was a
half-track looking thing used by the germans, with a 24 tube
(8wide x 3 deep) rack mounted on the back?  If anybody
knows or has a picture, can u please post?  Mybe HTC will
bring us one of these some day.

Sounds like this one. http://www.qt.org/worldwar/weapons/germany/heer/pnzrwerfer.html

Oh, missed the 3x8 part. It sounds like a mod of the above, 24 8cm rockets (copy of captured russian Katyusha) called R-Vielfachwerfer. Only the Waffen-SS had these (the wehrmacht wouldn't let the SS have any of their nebelwerfers.
I got pictures of it in some of my books, but can't find a good one on the net.

The german rockets whistled as they went out. It is my understanding this was the origin of the term "screeming-meme"
