We Live On Earth...
« on: February 18, 2003, 01:26:35 AM »
Just incase some of us forgot.....

We were born here, live here, and will probably die here (based on curent but archaic ideas)

--After reading many post in reference to what the U.S. should do about Iraq--

So with that said, there is a certain tact that is lacking in U.S. World Diplomacy, BUT... come on folks are we really going to side with a man like Saddam.........

U.S. feels threatened and we will do what we can to alleviate/elliminate that problem.

I just can't say much because those who are fighting or may fight are giving us such a gift that is incredible. They are willing to give their life so that I/US may live in peace and FREEDOM from fear and tyranny. If these soldiers do goto war may god bless them. (But not those who oppose us haha... j/k)

I don't know anyone that is "going to side with Saddam."

Being anti-war in Iraq isn't the same thing as being pro-Hussein.

Of course it is. In the same way as being anti-war is the same as being anti-American.

Ill share a few examples with you since we still seem to be having trouble with this concept:

Just imagine these are nice shiny protestor signs, ok?

Sign One:  Anti-Bush:

"Empty warhead found in White House."

What does this accomplish?  Nothing.  This individual is just going along with the crowd like a godd lemming and just wants to add more punch to his/her sign.

Sign Two:  Anti-American:

"Stop American Imperialism!"

What does this accomplish?  You guessed it, nothing.  What exactly is the point here?  That Americans are imperialist bastards who want to take over the world?  Please...

Sign Three: Anti-War

"America: Give inspectors time! Iraq: Give inspectors weapons!"

Ah, see here we see an anti-war sign.  This sign addresses both parties in the conflict and asks for a compromise, which, afterall is the solution to most arguments.  There is no mention of Bush being an idiot, and there is no mention of America being compared to Nazi Germany.

This individual has sat down and asked himself "How can I get my ideas across to those that agree AND disagree with me?"

You see, those of us who think that the US government is doing the right thing dont even pay attention to the anti-Bush and anti-American signs/shouts.  They are all perceieved as weakminded fools that cant even focus their anger into a tenable arument beyond "Bush is Hitler" or "Its all about oil!"

If you anti-WAR people wish to bring opinions forth, there are far more effective ways of doing it aside from the usual banter and Bush cartoons.

My argument for war can be summed up this way:  The people that were elected to office know a hell of alot more about the situation in Iraq than we do, and I am comfortable that they will act in my best interests.

Very good points Saurdaukar. Particularly about the US government having information that it hasn't made public. And they would be very foolish to make public all of that intel as so many have insisted they do.

It really is about trust and there are many both domestic and abroad that would never miss an opportunity to slam an opposing political party, regardless of the consequences.

yup all ya had to do was read their placards to get an idea of what they were about.......

I brought this very thing up in another thread. Those were hardly hippie love fests with folks holding hands singing "give peace a chance".

Red herring after red herring after red herring.

You could be anti-war and disagree with all those signs. Your arguments are fallacies. I'm currently anti-war, but wouldn't be seen brandishing any of them.

Red herring? BS those folks were expressing themselves.  They carried there message on big signs telling the world how they feel. They showed "man on the street" interviews which echoed the same nonsense. A lot anti-Bush war for oil bs ect......

Thats all propaganda right?

I am against the invasion of Iraq but I sure wouldnt march with the with folks who I dont agree with, regardless.

Why dont you tell me what they marched for since you say we cant believe their words and placards?

Peace? thats bs theres no "peace" in Iraq.

Bush wants to steal Iraqi oil? more bs if we wanted it we would have taken it years ago.

General pacifism? from the placards alot seemed ready to be "violent" against Bush.

US imperialism? more bs junk.

War is hell? well no toejam but these folks are volunteers and are willing to risk their lives to rid the world of a butcher like Hussein. We have/are saturating Iraq with leaflets, contacting Senior officers in the Iraqi military. This with the memory of the last war we might espect a lot of white flags early on. We have pecial forces in the western desert searching missile launchers and the like. This war wont be a vietnam or a war world 2 "storm the beaches".

I am against the war in Iraq because whats happens after Suddam is gone. A fundalmentalist state fighting a Civil war on 2 fronts that has the possibility of destablizing the whole region?

I didnt see any interviews with the protesters that said that and didnt see one placard that expressed that.
