I've never really gotten heavily into overclocking...I've always had enough horsepower to handle things...although framerate on my old system got down to 30-35 fps. Just finished a new system and I'm curious if I should even bother...certainly not a "high end" rig but reasonably good.

AMD 2100+
Gigabyte GA-7AXP KT400
512 meg 2700 DDR (1 stick)
MSI Ti 4600 128mg
2 x 80gig 7200 with 8mg buffers (raid config)
6 channel onboard sound (for now)

The board comes with an overclocking utility that lets you overclock the CPU. I've never overclocked a vidio card before.

Just loaded AH back up yesterday...getting about 60 FPS maxed out.

Any/all tips info advice on optimizing are appreciated

Humble this has nothing to do with your overclocking question but looking at your system and your framerate I would bet you are in need ot the Nvidia refresh rate fix. You should be able to do better than 60 fps with your setup. Take a look at this thread or just do a search for nvidia refresh rate fix.

Humble before you start to play with overclocking, do some studying.

OC'd rigs need heavy duty cooling systems. On AMD cpu's you'll need a $80 cooler or even better. I use water cooling, but I'm considering to move to phase-change (compressor) cooling.

Those come in at $600 but then the cpu will go down to -20C

That means some serious overclocking potential. Added bonus is that the system is relatively quiet. OTOH so is watercooling if you do it right.

About the refresh rate fix, do get it ASAP! That flickering 60hz display will give you nothing but a headache.

Rivatuner is a nice utility that not only fixes the refresh rate, but also lets you overclock your geforce untill it screams for mercy.

You should be able to get at least 10% gain in performance with the standard cooling without problems.

Just remember overclocking voids your warranty and is done purely on personal responsibility. Refresh rate fix is safe and a MUST.

You probably don't need a refresh rate fix. Set your monitor refresh to 85 and AH will play at max 85 in the same display settings as your machine and 75 if you set AH at a higher resolution.

Thanks to all, I'll check on the refresh rate tonight band. I'm not unfamiliar with heat issues Saif_csf but truthfully have never even heard of this stuff:( . I used to be a little bit of a "techi" but really havent bothered much over the last few years as the raw horsepower/$ value exploded. I have a 6 fan case...but thats it.

FOGOLD...I think my setting is 85, but I'm not sure. I loaded XP about 6 weeks ago but didn't have time to anything else till a few days ago. Only the 2nd system I've put XP on (I wiped it on my old system since my X36 had driver issues) so I'll double check things.

FOGOLD unless he uses the very latest nvidia drivers and has manually overridden the refresh rates, he does need the fix.

After reading the linked thread I'm capped at 60 fps until I load the tuner and tweaked drivers...thx.

OK...came home for lunch...I couldn't find the nvidia tuner mnetioned in the linked thread...I did download multi-res. I noticed that the thread was from a while ago....current detonator drivers go up to 40.9...any reccomendations. Also is there an updated tweak file for the nvidia?
