I'm sorry guys ...
« on: February 19, 2003, 01:29:35 AM »
... but this is going to be a whine.

Last night was my first return to a small map since Trinity was launched. Oh boy did I hate it. Last night 500 people was fighting over what? ... 5 or 6 airfields. It was just a constant gangbang. I'll take the dreaded Pizza map over any small map any day when 500 people are logged on.

I guess the furballers had a ball, by my fun comes from "surviving" and ACM rater than buzzing around an AF with 50 other guys, getting perhaps a kill or two then dying, or endlessly trying to grab a kill when there are 10 other guys on every bandit in sight.

The previous time I was logged on was on Trinity. An excellent map, but I understand if people are getting sick of trying ... and failing to reset it. Anyways, there were a few furballs, but there were always other minor conflicts for the likes of me. Found myself a nice little fight not far from the front. A couple of guys were trying to pork our AF and we had two guys there trying to defend it ... perfect. I upped my trusty old 109 with DT from a neighboring field because the bandits had already porked our fuel. Flew over there and began what would become a two hour sortie for me. For two hours 2-4 other Rooks and I fought off an equal number of bandits trying to cap our AF, and they were good too. We never managed to press the attack over to their AF, but the battle swayed back and forth as people got shot down and the numbers got uneven. I was GREAT! I didn't get many kills in those two hours, maybe 10 or so, but I "survived", rearming 5 or 6 times and the ACM was of top quality. Of course in the end a warp/bug got me, teleporting an La5 from d200 12 o'clock to d100 6 o'clock, which soured the whole experience for me and took the wind from my sails so to speak, but aside from a poor ending it was just my best two hours of AH in recent memory.

We NEED more big maps where everyone can find the fights they want.

Again, sorry for posting such a blatant whine.

Im guessing your bish ? Bish did get ganged lastnight. Both fronts had lots of enemies for us knights we just choose to hit the bish.  When uterus first was on this morning us knights were in the south getting ganged by lots of bish and rooks. bish and rooks were barley fighting but skuzzy came to the rescue:)  I like small maps in the morning and like the big ones at night.  Late night the big maps are boring with only 120 players logged on. Need to have a map in between the maps we got. Am in central time zone

I would think this sentence gave you a hint of my "nationality". ;)

I don't just hate being ganged, I hate having to do it too. I simply hate huge furballs period.

Disclaimer: Doesn't mean others don't like'em or shouldn't be able to do'em. I just want an alternative.

I don't know about others who like to "furball" (large fights with relatively even odds) but I consider the ganging attack to be a different sort of gameplay, wheather it's 5v1 or 20 v 4.

Yet another person who doesn't know what a furballer is.

A furballer likes a fair fight, which means even numbers.  It's all about the fight.  A vultch is not a fight.  As a matter of fact, vultching is usually a by-product of the strat guys overwhelming a field with numbers.   Furballers hate vultchers.  They are the scum of the earth.  They are the antithesis of someone who likes a fair fight.

I did all right on Uterus last night, found some smaller fights to go to (am a Rook also) was 40-3 in a Tempest. First time I died I landed, taxied to rearm pad, then ran and filled my daughters dinner plate...ran back to comp and was in the tower, got vulched on the rearm pad lol. 2nd time I died aircraft wreckage hit me (was no way to avoid all those chunks of plane coming at me lol). The 3rd and final Tempest I lost I was rtb and a under dar goon hunter popped me....never saw him till to late

Ya, those were some nice kills you were landing last night Elfie.  I was having a bit of a rough time in the perk rides on the uterus map last night.  1 in a 262 and 2 in Ta-152. Perhaps I should have tried the Tempest?  Rooks had a good offensive going on both fronts last night.  Finally ended up joining the furballing towards the end of the evening.

Hmm, could I be a furballer then? ... Yeah I think so. :)

I'm glad someone found good fights.

Sry, didn't mean to step on anyone's toes.

Edit: Still don't like the huge fights however fair they may be ...

Well said. Good CV fight last night on the top right island in Uterus. It was a fight. No one showed up to "kill" the CV. Just a battle of planes, lvt's and PT boats..

What is left in that case is just a damm good fight.

LOL why didnt I catch that. I do hear ya though big furballs is way to hard to keep a SA and I know both knight fronts were full. Later on that night though was very fun with 80 players on lots of 1 on 1s and some 3vs 3 fights.

I actually find myself bring homke more kills, more often on the small maps.  Its much easier to play the edge of a furball and pick off the lone, unsuspecting N1k.

No advantage situations on large maps scare me because I usually loose.  :D

You're not alone Gscholz, I'm not one to whine(;)), but last night there were full red dar bars on every front, in every sector with a hint of green in the mix...and no place to grab out in one of those big white radial-engined kabobs.

So I logged off and headed to the CT...little white Japanese radial-engined kabobs everywhere.  No AH tonight.

It seems you have a choice these days...you can milkrun or enter the gangbang and fare your chances.  Occassionaly, you will find the even fights that are entertaining but I'm finding it a rare thing.  Oh well, that is my take on the situation last night.:)

I was in plenty of furballs in Trinity...when the rook HQ was attacked by GVs and planes it was really huge..however, you could still take off and fight, unlike Mindanao last night :P
