So it was you!!! It was you who wrote the lyrics to Alanis Morasette's 'Ironic' song!
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

I would say that its not so much ironic as bleeding obvious really:)

Now you gotta asked yourself why so many died to gaurantee our right to protest?

The right to public assembly is all well and good, but what is the purpose of it, if it is not exercised?

They don't have that right and that's why we should be proud to exercise ours.

I think Rip is getting at the fact that Nazi Germany and USSR did not allow the right of public assembly in any meaningful fashion. The Cold War and WWII would certainly support that thesis.

He's clearly talking about a war in particular, otherwise it should read "an ACT of war has to..." (not "the ACT of war").

That would be harder to argue IMO, making war a prerequisite of all rights to public assembly

I was thinking of the oppressed people in Iraq. Fighting a war to free them from oppression so that one day THEY can assemble like we do.

This is one of the main points, IMO. Who is going to die if the US and the allies attack Iraq? Just elite troops?

Saddam has made it clear that their troops would defend their country by any means necessary, even wearing civilian clothes, mixing up with the oppressed people, and fighting guerrilla wars...

You are going to have to kill a LOT of innocent people to get to Saddam. The victims are going to be the oppressed, and not the oppressor. I wonder what do the oppressed people think about that...

yeah right Cyrano, believe Suddam has an army of dedicated followers.

It was just us propaganda when saw Iraqi soldiers surrendering to a uav in the gulf war.

The us governement has special forces in Iraqs western desert now, they have been dropping leaflets to civilians and military, they have been contacting Iraqi military folks through private emails and private phone numbers. While this alone wont lead to them "giving" up once the shooting starts and they see that they have no recourse but give up they will be white flags left and right.

BTW Suddam is killing lotsa of innocent people, so pull that crap. Either way folks are gonna die.

i against preemptive war protesting , i need to see proof that a war really will take place not some vague rumors about troop movements . when i see concrete proof war is happening then i will support protesting, but being a oil loving war monger i can not do the protesting.
