Well I decided to upgrade my trusty Epox 8k3a+ mobo, I got a 8rda+ mobo along with 2 256MB sticks of Kingston Hyper-X PC3000. Hopefully this Nforce2 thing will outperform a Via KT333.

When I got my A7N8X (Asus Nforce2 board) my 3dmark scores went up 20%, so you should see an improvement.

If your CPU temp suddenly seems 5-10 degrees C hotter, before you panic, consider that the Nforce2 motherboards all seem to use the on-chip temperature sensors (the KT333 and my old Gigabyte board used the temp die below the CPU) so the temperature will APPEAR hotter.

what should cpu temp be...Mine is showing 57-58 C.

Below 60 is acceptable but not good. With proper cooling you should see it around 40C.

With good cooling you'll see -40C but that's another story

my cpu temp runs 30 to 32 C during game playintek mb pent 4 2.0 ,nvid ti4200 sblive 5.1, bunch of other goodies on board

Siaf_csf, 40c is feasible only when using a motherboard that uses the temp sensor on the motherboard instead of the one on the actual processor, unless you're using water cooling or something.

That's what I'm talking about here, CPUs on motherboards that query the actual onboard temp sensor are rare, and those read higher then mobos that use their own sensor.

Chairboy 40C is totally doable with optimal ambient temperature even with aircooling. It does require a heavy-duty cooler tho.
