Abusing a known Bug
« on: February 20, 2003, 12:50:20 AM »
81st squad  knows its a bug that manable ack can't be killed. So they sit in all 3 manable acks at port 39.   MTwd81st,  Heff and usagirl.

This Shows what your squad is made of. Your actions represent your squad. To say hey its on boards everyone knows its a bug. so its okay to sit in gun, Is about as low as you can go in game. It saddens me to see a squad that had rep of being first in battle. Stoop to soo low.........

We had the same problem at V69.  Guy knew what he was doing and tried to justify his actions by saying "it's the first time I've ever done something like that".

Uh-huh.  Right.

He told me I'd do it too if I had the chance.  Hhmmm, maybe he knows me better than I know myself.  Highly doubt it though.

It's the curse of the statpotato.  (And generally having a high k/d ratio)

Some pilots fly to survive to such an extent that most deaths come from bugs, or just bad luck(i.e. instant 1-hit ack death).

Is this just at certain fields, or this entire map or what?  I've never heard this before.  I actually kinda enjoy using field acks sometimes just for fun, and I've been "kicked out" of them by enemy fire quite often.

A lot were exploiting this bug tonight, guys that have been around since I started like Behindya and Turbo.  To me, exploiting a known bug to gain an advantage is cheating and have sent the films it to HTC.  To make it worse, there seemed to be a lot of new players trying out the game tonight (possible marketing promotion being done?) and they log on seeing this happening.  I wonder how many will go away thinking AH is nothing but a bug ridden, cheater's paradise?

Yes tonight sucked. Got to find out who the losers are. Seen one guy do it all night his name started with a S, something like striago or something.  This is happening at all fields and when CVs and cruisers die there guns still work as well.  AKAK dont suprize me Turbo would be one to do it.  Thanks to the guys that didnt do it.  I was hounden the guys doing it most of them stoped but others just didnt have the respect for the game.  There has been alot of new guys on last couple days, where they all coming from??  Kind of nice feeling like a vetran:D

It's a game guys, relax. It will be fixed today I'm sure. Just keep the CV's away from the never say die shore battery, lol. The guys like me should be complaining cause it effects field capture the most. You furballers should still have fun.

Again, it's just a game.

I may have inadvertently 'exploited' this bug in the past because I didn't know about it.  Are you sure the others mentioned knew about it?  Here's a thought on this.  If you are in one of these acks that can't be destroyed when manned, should you un-man it so the other side can kill it?

Until reading this post, I would have just thought I'm lucky they haven't killed my gun yet and kept firing away.

You are correct.  I received an email from HTC yesterday for another account I had to come back and try AH for free until March 15.  It was a freebie account that never bought a subscription.  There are going to be a lot of new people on.

Side note to HTC, the previous account was only temporary until I could get a billing problem sorted out (holiday and no one was in the office) and as a current member I will not abuse the offer and have unsubscribe from the list.

You gentlemen need to lighten up a bit. A lot of people were doing this in ships, SBs and acks. I lost a P-47 to a "dead" ack. Thereafter, I avoided flying low over enemy fields. No big deal. Later, I got my revenge - in spades. It's also true that a lot of guys didn't realize it was a bug. Even if they did, so what? Recently we had a reset bug in the CT that allowed people to fly late-war aircraft in an early-war scenario. Shane and I tried for hours to keep people in the aircraft listed in the MOTD. However, after running up against P-51s and C-Hogs over and over again, I said "screw it" and grabbed one too. The bug was fixed a few hours later.

I fully expect people to take advantage of a bug, and you had better expect it too. Why? Because, once it starts, there's no stopping it.

My regards,

Widewing

I have to admit that today was the first time for me gunning since the update which brought us trinity, and i was dumbfounded when i was strafed by a typhoon and kept firing until i realized that my gunsight was missing.  Didn't know what the deal was so i flipped on the recorder to send it to HTC (which i will do) and since i didnt know wha the deal was stayed in the gun (after all rook hoardes were attacking, and i was essentially the only effective defender for some time).  It was made known to all where i was and what i was doing, and i admit i sat in it.  I have noticed this bug (didnt know EXACTLY what it was) when i was flying over what i thought was a perfectly dead Vehicle base and found myself exploded (after all, i had deacked the field myself).  Hopefully HTC will get it resolved, in the meantime, and i will speak for myself and my squadron, the U.S.M.C. that we will adhere to a code of honor and not use the already-dead field guns.  Got that gloves
