Howdy

Anyone know how to permanently disable MS Messenger from loading in Win XP?  Everytime I check the Task Manager it always appears after using a window or outlook even after it has been closed down before.

Start/Run and type in
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

yes, under ctrl panel/admin tools/services, disable "messenger"

also in OE, under tools/options, uncheck "automatically logon to windows messenger"

That's a different Messenger, I already have that one disabled.  I think MS Messenger is also called Windows Messenger.

yeah, two different ones.  the second i mentioned is what you're referring to and  i never see it load up as i've unchecked that "auto logon" box under OE, i'm sure reular Outlook has a similar option.

might also be under internet options if it loads when you open a browser window.

Ah cool.  Well I've removed Win/MS Messenger now and using Trillian instead if I have to (Trillian emulates ICQ, IRC, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger).

Just have this MS crap loading when you don't want it! :mad:

I use Trillian too after getting into four different messenger systems over the last few years.  Much easier.  :)
