Memorial Flight Proposal For the crew of the Columbia
« on: February 23, 2003, 07:35:09 PM »
I would like to propose a no-fire flyby of by all aces in memory of the crew of the Columbia Space Shuttle. All who would like to participate are welcome.

Location= main arena online

Specific Location = Center sector of what ever map is up

Date  = March 1, 2003, Saturday Time = 7:00pm Central Time

Alt = 10K

Duration = 30minutes minimum

Plane Selection = Aces Choice

The flight path is counter clockwise and there will be no combat during the flyby. Communication between all aces should be so everyone can read about where each of us were when we heard of the tragety. We will have one minute of silence during the last minute of the 30 min duration. Upon completion of the minute of silence, all combat may return to normal, even in the sector of the memorial flight.

This proposal is introduced to the community with respect to the crew of the Columbia and the aces in AH. This is not meant to be inappropriate in any way. It is intended to pay our tribute to the crew of the Columbia and their families as a community.

Please post your thoughts of whether we should have this event or not.

Please accept my most sincere apologies.  I thought he might want to change it to clarify whether he means Saturday or Sunday.  Dipshit.

His point is that there is confusion about the day so this is the best place to bring up the query......unless he gets jumped on further by sarcastic people who havnt spotted what he's spotted.

That's an interesting remark considering you started slinging the insults.  Nice edit though.

SOB,

Thank you for noting my error. My apologies for the confusion. The intent is to do this on the 1 month anniversary (for lack of a more appropriate term). If I am not mistaken the tragety occurred Feb 1, 2003.{as per a listing on the internet}

Your post requesting clarification is appreciated greatly.

We did this in AW and we found it to be very rewarding to us and respectful to that tragety.

Well,  I hate to be the voice of opposition,  but I feel this is a bad idea and the MA is no place of this sort of thing.

First off,  It does nothing to help the families of the columbia crew. It doesnt help Nasa,  It really doesnt do anything for anyone involved in the lost.   If you care, Do something that will at least possibly help future crews or the losses of the families involved.

Next,  The will be plenty of people Screaming and alot of hard feelings when a FW190 divees down on this flyby and starts shooting folks down.     Not everyone is going to know what is going on,  some might not care.    Every one of these seems to get interuped by aggressors.

Is it wrong to shoot down guys in this memorial?   some might think so,  But in reality,  Its a game/sim and thats what we do.  This is the place for taking out agression and besting your opponets.   Its the purpose of the MA to Shoot folks down and take their teritory, Even mess up their fun.  This just goes against the grain and has a receipt for disaster.

Just my opinon,  But this idea of a memorial sort of cheapens their deaths.   I understand Memorials for guys that spent time here, and really enjoy this sort of thing.   I dont feel that this is the place for this memorial.

If you really feel that this is a good Idea,  I will respect your feelings on the matter.   I propose you move it from the MA to the SEA or TA,  To limit the interlopers during the flight.

Im not replying to flame anyone, I just felt the need to voice my feelings on the matter.

Respectfuly,
Grimm

i have to agree with Grimm here, 7pm CST is primetime, on a saturday...

receipe for disaster - sorry to say.

wiser to move it to another arena if you really want an undisturbed event.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

Try the training arena?

PS SOB I edited my post 3 min after I did the orignal post because of a mispelled word. The content is the same. AND, I never called you any obscene words.

This is a recipe for disaster, why?

It's the Main
Peak time for the week
It's the internet
How many people would it take to spoil the flight, just one
Not everyone reads the BBS
Not everyone speaks English
There's always someone who doesn't care

List goes on...

I agree with the sentiment, but as has been pointed out it is a bit impracticle. I'm all for flypasts for lost ex AH players, but as far as anything else where does it end. Should we have one for the 96 (not 7 who were doing their job) innocent people killed in the nightclub fire, the list is endless.
It might sound harsh and unfeeling (not meant to be) but that is the practicalities of it.
