2stony - you couldnt be more wrong. It is a cultural slang, heavily induced by rap music. Quite honestly, its a part of my vocabulary (unless of course I am lawyering) ... in which case no slang is appropriate.

Peace out, G!

What I'd like is to see how all the immigrants from Africa and the Middle East heere in Dk who play hardcore gangstas would do in a proper gang environment in the US.

There ain't ghettos here - much to their despair. So they go about trying to create ghettos.

So stupid to see a young middle eastern or Somali man trying to emulate US African American gangsters. Just isn't right.

They should go on 'education trips' to the US slums - maybe that'd wake them up. All grolyful when there isn't any real rsik here in DK.

I hate the buggers.

mostly they do it because they are incapable of forming a personality on their own.   they believe that people will think that they are "with it" and 'current'.

We have white slang too... ending every sentance with "as well" makes me wince.

You mean kinda like how black "Gangstas" are emulating 1920's "real" gangsters?  (When was thje last time you caught a rap video on MTV?  The only things missing are class and humility - the basics are there though.)

My understanding is the pants hangin low thing originated in prison and is a sign meaning I am available to be your squeak. Anyone know if this is true?

Not sure about that - but the deal with one pant leg being rolled up can mean a couple things (I think)

I think rolling up the left leg means you are "packing" (carrying a gun).

and I think the right leg means you are a dealer.

Why you would advertise either is beyond me.

So if you have both pant legs rolled up does it mean that you're a dealer with a gun, or your pants shrunk:D

When the boys were younger I kept up with the signs and hints that might indicate gang affiliation.

Red or green clothing meant Bloods, Blue were Crips. The Crips also carried canes or walking sticks at times. Bloods wore belts with about 2 feet extra length and usually had a B on the buckle. A lot of Black kids my sons age (24 now) were encouraged to at least align themselves on one side or the other. The mid 90's were a tough time to be a high school kid.

Mexican gangs identify more with a street or neighborhood. The 18th Street or 7th street gangs came out of the LA barrio.

That's a whole other subject. One of my best friend's said something about rap that I totally agree with. "Put a "c" in front of it and that's what you have, CRAP"
