I'm in my late 40s, so take that into account when reading this post.
I've been hearing the expressions "my bad" and "what's up G" for a while and it seems to be getting used more and more. The first thing that comes to my mind is "gang bang slang". I'm sure none of you are gang bangers or aspire to be. The use of the word term "G" is, and correct me if I'm wrong", a short version of the word cupcake. I know from my experience that the only people that use that word and get away with it are black people. No white stranger would ever use that term when talking to a black person they didn't know and not expect some verbal or physical retaliation.
So, do all of you that use these terms ever think about what you're saying? Do you all want to be gang bangers? We had our slang when I was young, but it was not derogatory like these terms are.
Also, if you think I'm predujiced, you are wrong. This is just to find out the whys.
Let the flames begin!
