Mach numbers are represented in a precentage of 1.0 mach. ex: if mach 1 at sea level is 761.5 mph. and you want to know what .78 mach would be(which means 78% of mach 1) just multiply 761.5 x .78 =593.97 mph. Airspeeds are true airspeeds and not indicated. Just FYI the formula is as follows:
Mach = TAS/CS
CS= 38.967854*sqrt(T+273.15)
T= temp in degrees celsius
TAS= true airspeed in knots
knots-to-MPH=kts*1.15
Standard Temperature is 15 deg c at sealevel reduced 2 deg c per 1000 feet.
