Who do you all consider great men.

Washington?

Macarthur?

Patton?

Churchill?

M.L. King?

Have we had a "Great man" In the last 20 years? What makes a great man Great?

Only one great man has lived....the Son of God...Jesus Christ.

The rest are just men:)

Agree with all your choices I would add

Teddy

Lincoln

Gandhi

As far as the last 20 years, very tough call to be put in that category I would say

Reagan

Steven Hawkins (think thats his name, talks with the computer...just transending his disability makes him great)

Mother Theresa

No others come to mind as far as what determines greatness, I would say having a vision and pursueing it with vigor. Intelligence, being admired and hated for your views. It really is a tough call.

Great men get up every day and go to work, they raise their kids with love and discipline. They treat their woman with respect and they are always overlooked when it comes time to recognize great men.

until now.

You are saying the common good man is great, but is he greater then the men listed above?

Or some how they are the same?

Doesn't it seem a tad aragant to compare a man such as yourself, who I have no doubt is a good man and father to a man like Churchill, or Gandi?

I consider myself a good man, I am honest, I work hard and am fair. I am not a great man, though.

Well think about this-

Which is greater?

The father who works and sacrifices to give every opportunity to his gifted son... or

The gifted son who uses those opportunities to improve the lives of many?

Tough call if you ask me.

Do you need the publicity to be recognized as a Great Man?
I have a friend who was driving by an apartment building and saw that a fire was blazing in a first floor apartment, he stopped, rang the doorbells of all the residents, woke them up at 3-4 in the morning, helped people out of the building saved many lives, & drove away as the fire department arrived, no credit, no publicity,
Yes he is a great man in my opinion, he mayed have saved the life of a future great man,
There are many "common" people who do not get the publicity for acts of greatness.

imho

Couldn't agree more.  And, as far as a vote goes, my father gets the #1 vote for most admired man.  He raised ME after all! ;)

Rock on Rude:)   But beyond that, considering men of Earthly origin, Ron Reagan is a great man, and I'm glad to have been alive during the time he was pres. Wish he were still capable, he'd know what to do 'bout this current situation.

Three cheers for the common, law abiding, loving, fathers. Without them none of the above listed men would exist as we know them.  For it takes one or even several good acts to qualify for that list, but it takes a lifetime to raise a good son.
