Couple minor a/c changes to Rhine
« on: February 25, 2003, 01:09:45 PM »
Enabled the P-51B and P-47D-11 at all USAF bases, disabled all but RAF a/c (with exception of C-47) at the two RAF bases (A73 and A76, I believe).  I don't believe it should negatively affect balance in any way, but will just provide a bit of additional flavor to the fights.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with the way this one's played so far.  I've flown mostly Allied, and was rudely surprised by the skill of some of the LW drivers.  I do okay in the 109, but can't fly the Fw190 with any success.  There were some guys outflying me in ways I just didn't believe!

Best fight so far was when I was in a pony against a 109.  Started out at 15K and wound up in a stall fight on the deck.  I got the kill, but only because the 109 stalled and spun first.  Up to that point, we were matching each other turn for turn.  It should have ended with my death, but for a (for once) perfectly executed forced overshoot of the 109.  He had me dead to rights up to that point.  Once that shook him out of the saddle, it was a 3-4 minute ride of the stall-horn.  Arms were shaking from the strain (TM Cougar here) by the time it was over.  I never did get a ping on him, as I recall.  I can't remember who it was, but anyhow.

Sabre,

Would it be possible to have the nothern German bases switch to RAF aircraft as they're taken so that the RAF keeps fighting on the northern front?  Right now as soon as any progress is made the USAAF takes over the entire front.

Only the extreme most bases should be RAF in my opinion.

Thanks.

The Spitfire Mk IX is available at all Allied bases.  Is this intentional?

Excellent!   Thank you Sabre!

Haven't had a chnace to fly Allied yet as the Axis was always outnumbered when I've logged in, but looking forward to a few sorties in these two birds...

Also, the 109G2 was not available last night at the German fields that I checked.  Not sure why this happened, but as a result the axis lost its best turning fighter of the original setup.  Not that big of a deal in and of itself I guess, but what made it worse was the allies gained one of the best T&B planes in the Spit IX.

No, this is not a Spit whine, I just want my 109G2 back!  Up until last night I was having great fun in it suckering all those late war allied monsters into low and slow turnfights.  What joy!

ahh yes, the 109g2...  as soon as i started whacking spit14's in a g10,  i saw more and more spit9's...  g2 is a nice counter to that.

Hi guys. No, the Spit-IX is NOT supposed to be enabled at ANY bases.  Sorry for this oversight...don't know how it happened.  I'll fix it this afternoon.  Regarding enabling RAF at the Northern German bases, that's a good point I hadn't considered.  I'll make a change there as well.  Finally, yes, I can enable the 109G-2.  As far as I'm concerned, this is no different than allowing the P51B and P47D-11 for the Allies.  Thanks for the continued feedback, and the civil manner in which you all make them.  It makes the job much more pleasant.  Salute!

btw, the Spit IX skin was fantastic on this map!  :)  Kudos to whoever did it.  I was flying a 109G-10 at the time and was used to fighting the Spit XIVs when I saw a Spitfire that had stripes on the wings!  :)  It was beautiful!  Did ASW make the skin for the Spit IX too?
