You know you married the right woman when she buys you one of these (see attachment) for your birthday...

I haven't purchased any new rifles in about 4 years. So, this tends to round out my dastardly collection of "assault weapons", which includes a L1A1 (FAL), AR-15 (pre-ban A2), Chinese Type 56 (Norinco pre-ban AK-47) H&K G3 and now this CETME. So, I ordered 8 additional 20 rnd magazines, scope mount and a sling from Topco. And, I visited a local wholesaler and picked up 400 rounds of Belgian made 7.62x51 NATO (otherwise know as .308) ammo. Once the snow melts, I'm off to the range to sight it in.

Funny thing is, I was seriously considering selling some of my collection (there's about 12 other firearms in the gunsafe and 8 muzzle loaders in the den cabinet), simply because I rarely get a chance to get to the range these days.

Well, the G3 was developed from the CETME, which in turn was developed from a war-time German prototype smuggled into Spain after the war.

My wife didn't realize that they were so similar when she went shopping for the gift. It was recommended by a local dealer as a relatively inexpensive, yet utterly reliable rifle. Frankly, the CETME is a better looking weapon IMHO, but almost certainly is no better than the G3. Primary differences in the G3 include small changes to the receiver, plastic furniture and a rotary sight, where the CETME has a four position flip sight. I expect the CETME to be as accurate as the G3, which means good groups at 200 yards with iron sights. With a 3-9x40mm scope, it should hold sub-six inch groups at that distance.
