P38's buried in ice
« on: February 28, 2003, 08:43:18 AM »
I remember reading an article a loooooooooong time ago (early 90s?) in Popular Mechanics about some P-38's that had to be ditched after a botched mission in the Artic or Antarctic or somewhere really cold, i forgot, lol.

well they had found the site where they are located and they were under like 80 feet of ice / snow... i forgot

does anyone know what im referring to?  any more info on this?

They have flown one of these planes already.  There is a website out there, you should be able to find it.

I know the story, the book you refer to is actually in my local library. Never found out if they managed to get the P-38's out. And now they even got one flying again! Great.
