X-Box or PS2?
« on: February 28, 2003, 12:11:09 PM »
I've been thinking of purchasing a game console but can't decide between a X-Box or a PS2.  Which is best?

Cheers

They both rock.  What kind of games do you want to play?

Was thinking of some of the Star Wars games etc., rally/racing games, Medal of Honour sort of games, soccer/sport games... so, in general pretty much anything! ;)

Main reason why I was thinking of getting one was that I never get round to playing other games on my PC.  If I'm on my PC then it's virtually always AH and even if I had loads of games available it would still prolly be AH!  So my idea is that if I purchase a console then I can plug it into a TV and just have some lazy playing at my convenience if that makes sense?! :D

BTW, the game pads that plug into the XBox, are they like USB or their own sort of connector?

If you want to play rally games the best is Colin McRae 3, and it's out for XBox only right now.  PS2 and PC are coming later this year though.  Rallisport challenge is also XBox only.  Not as realistic as CMR 3 but entertaining.

XBox gamepads use a proprietary connector.

I have a ps2 that I am thinking of selling, just gets in the way of playing AH.  I have sold off all of my ps2 games (beat them all).  have the console, 1 controller, rfu and rca cables, like new.  I know they are like $199 now, I bought mine when they were $299.   Make an offer.   medicboy@excite.com

I have both the X-box and PS2,

PS2 has more games and you can use old PS1 games on it

X-Box built in hard drive (no memory cards anymore woohoo), on online games with voice is very very good.

I have rallysport for xbox which is damn fun, plus Halo etc.

I lean slightly towards x-box.

Alright, at the behest of my nephew, I went and checked these things out.  One question:

How the heck does anyone play a game with those freakin floating controllers?!?!?!  I mean,..sheesh.

Thanks for the replies.  Even though I know more people that own PS2s, I am swaying towards the XBox mainly because they're offering a better deal, plus isn't it supposed to be more powerful/better graphics than the PS2?

Yeah but im not gonna buy a $150 system to play the one game that has been franchised to death, Metroi 1,2,3,prime,obtuse.  Xbox has a better Grpahics processor than PS2, XBOX live is far better established and works much better than the PS2 internet crap.  Its built in with the Xbox you pay $49 get a kickass mic, and the 1st year free.  With PS2 gotta buy some network adapter plug it in etc.

from what i heard the Xbox games arent showing the true graphics the xbox has to offer.  Ive played all 3,
ps2= more games / ages 13-17
Xbox= less games/ ages 18 -82
GQ = kiddy games/ ages 1 - 12

The xbox doesnt have all the companys that PS2 has so theres less games out. But when Xbox does release a game its usually good. Look at Splinter Cell. That game is breath taking for the Xbox.  Plus they are planning to bump up the graphics that the games use so the xbox will use the full graphics card.
