Flight Model ?
« on: August 06, 1999, 08:15:00 AM »
Is the flight model an "exact replica" of WBs' FM, or is it more/less detailed?

I cant think of any real weaknesses in WB's FM except rediculously easy ground handeling, and maybe some strangeness regarding inverted flight.

How will it be ?

The warbirds flight model was my first ever. I wrote it back in 91 or 92.

Theres only one concept that they both have in common other than that it a completly different model. Ive been wanting to start a model from the ground up again and finaly got the chance.

The AH model is much more flexible in its approch and should produce some very nice effects as we fine tune it more.

Will the FM incorporate WB style auto trims, or strictly manual trim?

I don't care if it's auto or manual, but the WB trim is porked.

The trim changes are much too large on some planes, much to small on others.

Examples:

Almost every bomber will not trim for best climb speed.

P-51 and other planes are untrimmable above 25k.  The pony in particular becomes very unstable.

P-40 reportedly required a rudder stomp in a dive even with rudder trim maxed out.

Fw 190 had no rudder or aileron trim.  But pilots reported no problems at all flying it.    If you took the rudder and aileron trim off of the WB 190 it would be completely unflyable.
