I have been flying with the MAW for almost a year now. Since joining the MAW, I have NEVER heard of, nor been given instructions to execute the "pork 'n auger" strategy. Any mission that we fly, we fly to live, fly to kill, and fight to the death if needed. Semper Fi !!!!

I never flew AW or any other sim, but what I get from 40's original post was the "pork 'n auger" strategy was used "back in the day" when the MAW consisted of only around 9 members. With that, the only way to take a base with those numbers was to "pork 'n auger". Hardly the case these days !!!

The only time you will see a MAW auger, on purpose, is when we are running ops. Between missions, if one cares to up and fly CAP at a newly captured base, and a new mission has been announced, don't be surprised if you see MAW planes drop out of the sky and straight to the ground.

I have never before seen so many people fail to take a base as the Maw does. I respect thier focus and dedication. But when 35 guys cant take a vehicle field from 3 in less then an hour and a half, you have absolutely nothing to brag about.

Please ...    ... is there anybody besides you that thinks that if the MAW brought 35 people to a VH base, it would take us that long to take it, from 3 pilots and/or GVs. Secondly, we wouldn't waste that amount of manpower, and send that many to take a VH base ... we usually send 3 ... 2 fighters/jabos and 1 goon, and thats usually 1 too many planes.

The best thing about flying around in AH is getting a "name" kill.  something like Rude or Drex and possibly my favorite Frenchy and Ammo, although they are hard to find because they avoid rooks.

A MAW kill gives me a nice warm feeling too.  Not quite an "A" kill but a nice second level and there's a lot of them.

If Green Millenium happened twice..I wasn't there for the 2nd time. I agree that 229 squad was every bit as effective as the MAW, maybe more so......and thats with alot fewer members :)

Slapshot...I haven't seen MAWs doing the pork 'n auger thing in AH yet, however it did seem to be a standard tactic for them in AW days. (And it did contribute to the *bad rep* )

Other squads that were very effective in Big Pac were Hammerheads, 444th Air Mafia and those 555 guys.

BGBMAW....that was a fun fight at A98 (?) on pizza the other night, to bad some jerk had to bring a goon and end it

Mage is an all around good guy. We were squaddies together in the ACCS, and we met at the 1999 Con in Dallas.

He served his country as a main battery gunnery observer on the USS Wisconsin; he got to fire those 16 inchers! He participated in Desert Storm, on the Wisconsin.

Mage was one of the guys who was most concerned about the PLAYERS of the game. Time and time again he risked his job (and by extension, his family's security) to stick up for what he believed to be right. Mage and I exchanged a number of emails during AW's last year, and I learned a lot that he asked me to keep confidential. Eventually, Mage got canned by EA, like everyone else.

I don't play this game of AH. I tried it, but IMO you guys are [edited for the sensitive, replaced by]no fun, especially here on the message boards. It's like watching crackhead jackals fighting with psychotic hyenas, with the rest of the crowd all dusted up and screaming for blood. God forbid anyone would want to jump in and participate.

Reply if you wish, but don't expect me to engage. I'm only here to defend my friend's reputation from some rabid coyote.

Any MAW ever actually serve in the real Marines? Or just playin' Marine?
