X45 Spring Tension Solutions?
« on: March 02, 2003, 11:39:41 AM »
Hey guys I just got an X45 (I love it!), and I've got some pedals as well.  It's a big change going from twistie stick to this....anywho.  The spring tension in the X45 is a little high for my taste and I was wondering if anyone had found a solution? (I think Eagler has one?)

its a combo of spring tension and the friction the saucer the spring pushes down on and what it rubs across

some wax the bottom of the saucer, I've used powdered graphite

as for the spring, seen some tie wrap a couple of spirals together though this has never worked for me. My last stick was the worst about this. I take a 1/2 inch "C" pipe clamp and slip it under the back of the saucer when I'm not playing AH. It keep the spring compressed and breaks it in quicker. It also double as a great "auto pilot" for gv when in drivers seat and don't want to hold handle forawrd to go :)

If it's really bad, you may want to exchange it for another X45. Heard of some ppl opening the sticks in the store to get one that felt the best :)

here's a dat file if ur interested:

Thanks a bunch.  The spring tension isn't enough to make me take it back, but I will try some of your suggestions.  I snagged your profile already while i was searching around and I've modified it to my tastes and it works great .

usin saitek x45 and i just strapped the stick to a board using cable ties.  That way when i wish I move the board and it's out of the way.  Others, i've heard, use velcro.

Don't know if that helps :)

another suggestion is if it feels real tight pushing/pulling in a certain direction, grab the entire saucer/spring whatcha ma call it, pull up and twist it bout 45deg one way or another. I find just spinning it slightly makes moving it easier most of the time. Do it before you engage, making sure its as smooth as it can be b4 u enter a fight :)
