Yes...what exactly is it he needs to learn about German history?

There were no concentration camps in Germany? No jews were starved, tortured, murdered?

Not-Quite-ROFL. I`ve been to two concentration camps turned museums - once while in school, once afterwards.

If you ever need a good argument on why germans (the overwhelming majority, we have our share of toejamheads, too) don`t want to start the Adolf toejam again, here`s one.

If you`re over here once, don`t miss the opportunity. Such a visit is a sobering experience.

On topic: Funny stuff. Gonna try for some Margon Cola and Karo smokes hehe.

Duedell,

Exactly what part of German history does he need to learn? Does he need to learn about the shooting of civilians by the east german border guards just because they wanted to live in another part of the world? Does he need to learn about forced labor? Does he need to learn about the ultimate solution to the "jewish problem"?

Just what are you going to educate him about??? Perhaps the lack of braincells is in the one you see in the mirror.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Liberate these folks, from themselves no less, help them build a workable form of self government and they want to wax nostalgic for oppression and slavery.

Who the hell are we to ridicule.

Comparing the Nazis with the socialistic (not comunistic) regime of the DDR (that surely was a dictatorship) is sick and simply wrong. Please ask the people grown up in eastern germany they will tell u the little difference.

Many west germans never had a chance to see how the east germans lived. This "theme park" is a great oppotunity to get insights in eastern germanies culture (yes they devolped there own one) and to get enlightened about the Stasi and the dogmatic regime.

Hortlund at least u should know a little bit about that but i guess u have to wave ur pompoms for every little toejam a few uneducated guys post here.

You never been in Germany I guess ?

All my german friend (even the youngest) live with the Shoah in mind.
They are very far from being Nazi in fact they are as far from Nazism as they can.
And they know certainly more their history than any American or swedish can.

Maybe one reason to build such a DDR Disneyland is to show how the life was in DDR-times.

But I think main reason is to make money. So the target group are not the germans but the tourists who are really fascinated to see all these DDR things.

Its like the time when I lived in Berlin and the wall came down.

Every tourist wanted to buy a stone, which was cut out of the wall. And the clever germans sold them every stone they found with some colour on it ;)

If all these "original parts of the wall" would have beeen put together we would be able top build 2 or three walls around Berlin :D

But tourists are nice - they buy everything and gibe money for every nonsense - like Kuckucksuhren or rare real animals like the bavarian Wolpertinger :D :D

So why not offering them a DDR Disneyland to spend there the money ?

Well I think this is more than just to make money. Many children who were born in the late 80´s or after the change cannot understand when their parents talk about livin in the GDR. Additionally it MIGHT give some in the West a real insight into GDR-life (some still tend to patronize us Ossis about how bad our lives were without knowing anything about the GDR except their own prejudices). It´s a chance - although I rather fear they´ll turn it into a ridiculous money-press ... :(
