Ideas on training the FNGs

How about this: When a player creates their AH account they are prompted to choose a Squadron with the rank of cadet.

The default squadron is "1st Training Sqdn" or "Primary Training Sqdn". It would have a experianced pilots as the CO & XO who would train these new members.

They must graduate from the squadron to play in the MA/HA or whatever the full realism arena/theater is called. They could play in the Relaxed Realism or in the training arena as a cadet.

Make the cost to fly just half that of the MA/HA.

Once they graduate, flag their account to prompt the selection of a new squadron the next time they login and promote them them to 2nd lt or warrant officer.

Remove the training squadron from the list of squadrons and add the option to create a new one as well as joining an existing one.

What do you think ?

Too restrictive.

Have an easy arena available for those that want it. But if somebody wants to play with the Big Dogs. They should be able to. Even if they aren’t ready.

Ok what constitutes a FNG??

I soloed a real(tm) plane when I was 16. I got my private when I was 17, and got my inst/com ratings when I was 18. I was the only kid in High school with my own 172 Skyhawk. I'm now 33 and have close to 2000 hrs logged. I have been flying WB for over 4 years. I have been evaluating and reviewing flight sims for magazines for over 5 years.

And you would have me waste my time and money in a training squadron? Bad Idea IMHO.
It would probably keep me and maybe others from ever starting an AH account.

 Just my thoughts,

 PCG3, out

Good point pcg3. Obviously your not in the FNG catagory (Flyn New Guy)

But what if players had the choice of joining an existing squad, creating a new one or going the training squad route.

Or a none of the above as well.

Just thinking of ways to ease the steep learning curve for the new targets, er players.

Any suggestions ?

What are you trying to achieve? Helping them through the learning curve so they don't get frustrated and quit? Keeping them out of the more advanced arenas? Creating more structure through levels of graduation?

Depends on what you goal is.

I've been promoting the idea that we need another dimension beyond just killing targets. I do like the option of instant action i.e. WB MA when I don't have a lot of time or just feel like keelin. But I also believe the game would benefit from earned levels. There should be a reward for landing a sortie as well as killing and a penalty for death. Only this will bring any meaning to sorties and cause folks to fly in a more historical way. The seat-of-your-pants fear will come back too if you know the guy who is on your six can set you back a bit versus just dispatching you to a tower.

So I agree with the idea of a starting point and a graduation to levels. The question is, where does everyone start...and what does it take to get to the next level, and once there what is your reward?

I wouldn't put any restrictions on where people can fly. As long as they have choices in arenas it will work out OK.
