WarBird Players Con 2001...
I hope you can come...we called ourselves Warbird Player Con for two reasons:

1) Warbird (aka warbirds tm) was an affectionate term for War Planes long beofre Warbirds iEN or ICI, etc was created

2) Warbirds is still the game that gave birth to many of our friendships between AH and WB. We are hoping the folks from WWIIONLINE will be there as well!

iEN is not sponsoring this...though DIVINE and HS will be there for sure. They have no funding involved. This is strictly a con by players for players. We would need some help running events with AH....who knows maybe an evil con night in AH!

With all due respect to worr (who I have immense respect for actually), and speaking only for myself...

Having attended three WB-Cons myself (97/98/99) I surely miss those friends who chose to stay with iEN. Most of them chose such because of squad votes or they own Macintoshes.

But my home is now in AH. If I have my choice of an AH-CON, WB-CON, or Combo-con...
I'll be in Big-D with HTC!

What: WarBird Players Convention (WPC) 2001.

When: October 2001 (specific date not set).

Where: Dayton, Ohio - The Birth Place of Aviation. (That is Aviation, not Flight)

Sponcer: You, the Player! This is an OPEN Player Con. We plan to have gifts and prizes. Did I say this will be an OPEN Con?
(We will be accepting Sponcerships in exchange for services, gifts/prizes, funding, ad space on the web site or to demo products/equipment)

By Whom: WarBird Players Convention Committee (WPCC), a Nonprofit Company (Formed for liablilty, contractual and tax reasons. We do not have the finances of a large company backing us. Excess funds would be rolled over to Con 2002. In the event the WPCC is voluntarily disolved, the net assets would be given to support WWII WarBird restoration, maybe the Collins Foundation.)

Supporting Cast of the WPCC: (in no specific order) Llama, Worr, Wily, Mury, Gunner, Gecko (more we hope).

Speakers: TBA. (Once registrations start to come in, we will have an idea of what we can afford to pay)

Special Event: World's Oldest and Largest Aviation Museum: http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/

Con Ticket/Registration Price: Between $0 and $1,000,000 (we hope , TBA. (Those that register early will get a discount on thier Con Ticket cost. They will also be entered into a drawing. For what, we are staying closed mouthed, but it will be worth it)

Accommodations: TBA... plan on a full service Hotel.

Hotel Cost: TBA. We have current bids in the range of $85 - $119 per night, tax not included. There will also be a cut off date for getting the lower Hotel cost too. Don't miss it.

Hotel Tax Rate: 12.5%

Con Room Square Footage: 6,272sqf or 6,400sqf depending upon location.

Internet Connectivity: Dedicated Full T-1 (1.5M) Planned, negotiations in progress now. You will need to be able to connect to an ethernet if you bring your machine. We are checking on machine and monitor rental.

Transportation: DAY is the internation airport north of Dayton http://www.airnav.com/airport/DAY.  We are looking for a travel agent (maybe boca?) to sponsor. Seattle to Dayton is about $520 round trip at this writing as a USA long distance example.

Web Site: In Production.

This is a Players Con. It is the WarBird Players Con. WarBird is a term that has and does apply to a type of aircraft and does not refer to a particular product or company. No insult or slight should be infered by the designation of this Players Con. It is felt by the Committee that this designation best described what we are about and what we are going to achieve.

Since this is a Players Con, any funds to make it happen will come from you the Player, Donations and later, Sponcers when they see this is happening. We need you to register early for the WarBird Players Con and Reserve a room at the Hotel as well. The sooner you register, the more we will be able to accomplish in order to have a fantastic WarBird Players Con. The more people that stay at the Con Hotel, the lower the cost of the Con Rooms will be. The less we have to spend on essentials the more we will be able to add to what you get for your attendance.

In the event we do not get a minimum number of registrations (number to be determined yet), this Con will NOT happen. In the event the Con is cancled, your registration fee will be refunded with the exception of the amount the credit card company charged for the processing.

I will be answering questions posted here if they have not been asked and answered. I will also be updating information as well. Once we get a Public Information Officer, he will take over for me.

On behalf of the WarBird Players Con Team, thank you.

Gunner

i don't get it?

they won't be around in October.

why not donate the money to them to keep it running instead of a party?

is there a plan B to refund registant's money or would you go ahead a run the CON even if they've left the building?

udie...all is well. You are missed!

Checksix you need to switch bait...that one is getting a bit wrinkled and dry.

FWIW...I have lots of friends here at AH. I'd not only like to see them again, but I would like to invite them to an open party. Glad to hear from so many of you already on private e-mail!

sorry to offend you bud but it is a serious question.  hope you remember this thread when Oct comes around.

before you spend a ton of player's money you should get ien to state they think they'll be around then.

i wouldn't put a dime into something where you'll most likely be standing around playing with yourselves and not the game.

could be real embarassing for a lot of people

not a troll.... just some common sense

Even if iEN folds before October, in the very very worst case we'll still have a T-1 connect for Aces High gaming (with whatever server/special events support HTC feels is appropriate), WWIIOL beta play for whomever is allowed into the beta at that time, and possibly/probably Target Korea beta play.  On top of that will be the usual quake/gpl/nascar4/whatever servers anyone decides to host on their own plus AH H2H servers as required for dueling.

That sounds like plenty of gaming to do, even if WB isn't around and also assuming nobody gets stupid and runs freehost.
