Small quick troop transport planes?

Were there any small fast transport planes in WW2?  the reason i ask is because if there were, i think it would be cool if 2 or 3 small planes, which, combined, carry enough troops to capture a town, could be used to quickly reach an enemy town, but if one were shot down, capturing it could not be possible.

something like this would promote more transport planes to work together to capture a field.

dunno... what do you guys think?

I know low-flying medium bombers were used for commando infiltration and spy drops, but none of those missions were as massive as capturing a town.

As it stands, it only takes ten guys to take a town. Sounds iffy that anyone would bother to make a dedicated transport that carried fewer than that.

no, but I'd love to have gliders, just for the heck of it (probably would get shot down like flies). I think it would encourage some teamwork,as in tow-plane + glider pilot . Also, the glider pilot should get a succesful landing no matter where he puts down, if he's in one piece.

The G4M Betty sometimes doubled as a light transport, as did several other types of bombers.

There was a single engine transport plane designed during WW2 and used at the end and also during Korea.  I cant recall offhand what the name of the plane was, but it was a Navy design.

Maybe the Avro Anson? Ok, it wasn't that quick, but it is a small transport and it could be armed with BB's and tiny bombs too. Shot down a Me 109 once. Have to dig through my books to get more info.

The ten-troop capacity of the current troop transport vehicles is a game artifact -- a C-47 could carry more than two dozen troops, and the M3 halftrack could carry 12 troops in addition to the vehicle crew.

but the C-47 is slow and if one gets through, a town can be captured.  several smaller faster planes could get there faster, but losing one or two would make capturing the town impossible.  I think there would be more teamwork with several small planes

it was technically possible in some versions of Airwarrior to fly (8?) mustangs or whatever over a dead base, all 8 pilots bail, and capture that base.  That option was taken out in subsequent versions, and I dont know if the technique was ever used.

Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle, no idea how many paratroops they carried but they dropped them over sicily in july 1943

i actually think it is possible for users in this game to destroy a map room ( i seem to remember losing 1 troop and another pilot bailed and ran into the map room thus capturing it...would be interesting to try with nothing but users sometime...)

as for several small fast transports it sounds good...
