Add the two last biplanes fighters
« Reply #90 on: April 25, 2003, 01:08:40 PM »
The Gloster Gladiator and the Fiat CR.42 would make an interesting addition to the early war plane set.

The Gladiator equipped 13 of the 35 Fighter Command squadrons at the beginning of the war, 2 squadrons served in France and 1 took part during the Battle of Britain.  They continued serving in Africa and the Mediterranean until 1941.

The Fiat CR.42 was built from 1939 to 1943 (total of 1781).  It fought in various theaters an against the Gladiators in North Africa.

I think it would be interesting to have a biplane vs biplane missions and/or snapshot.

I'd like to see an expanded a/c inventory for use during scenarios and other spec. events, instead of ad libbing a/c types. This sim is well beyond early air warrior versions, and scenarios ought to have use of appropriate a/c types for scenarios.
The a/c types wouldn't have to be available for general arena use, just for special events.

I'd also like to see more accurate modeling for a/c types. I read books about RL a/c types and their technical specifications, and almost always say to myself: "hey! I fly the _ _ _ in AH, and I don't get near that rate of climb!"

I also expect that there were way too many variations developed amongst all of the WW2 combatants to reasonably develop in AH but, pick one, (perhaps the best middle ground type) develop it, and stick with it :).

Finally, avoid the Uber types in GVz and a/c; they will only attract dweebs and those who need some kind of superiority; I figure if a guy/gal is that good, then have em prove it in the same a/c as everyone else; IMO then the compliments are truly deserved ;)
In an arena with so many, it would be awkward to gameplay if there were a Spit XXII available (at no matter what the cost) when the majority of people are flying period a/c.
Pwerhaps have a "what If" arena where folks could live out their fantasies flying all the experimental a/c they can get their fill of.

I would like to see a 'road network' on the terrains.

This one time, I sort of started fantasizing about possible improvements on the strat system - the ideas started flying out, and I couldn't control myself :)

It first began when I had spawned from a VH to a nearby town. The distance wasn't too far, but the problem was that it was a slanted hill which led towards the direction of the town. Since a 25mph Panzer can go at about only 10~15mph if it has to run slanted, I began complaining how silly that was.. "Geez, what ignoramus would run his tank through hills that had not any roads!"

Then it hit me. I remember playing the Simcity series, and how it handled road placements. Laying out a road, when the road has to be placed along the slope of a hill, it would level the terrain out. So I was thinking "Hey, would there be any reason this feature would not be feasible to AH?".

The problem is that currently in the terrain editor, a 'road' is a special type of terrain interface related only with the strat resupplying system. Another problem is that to 'simulate' a road for GVs, the terrain designer would have to create a certain amount of level terrain conditions all manually before placing a GV spawn point. If the GV spawn is just placed according to its sectoral position after creating the terrain, in many cases there would be troublesome spawn points which has many problems -  good in distance, but when someone actually uses it, very tiring.

 ...

So how about an easier function/feature to create paved roads, as seen in Simcity?

When a road is placed along a slope, it would be levelled out. When a road is placed towards a slope, it's elevation angle would be regulated... as suggested in this pic..

Once it becomes easy to create a wide network of roads, there are variety of possibilities on how it could be utilized to create an even more compelling terrain. For instance, VHs and towns might be placed alongside roads, so it gives an immersive feeling to the ground war - capturing enemy territory, towns and facilities..  following the major roads for advancement.. instead of the four~five zones in Trninty, maybe the zones can be divided into smaller sizes and become more numerous... towns and VHs becoming zone fields which control a few strats linked with three~four fields...

Sounds good! Running on roads in GVs could give a speed bonus, and since there's a possibility that GV missions in TOD will start from home bases, that extra speed would be quite useful..

Anti-Tank mines...  if they weren't visible at least just slightly, all the tankers would be whinin about em. Would prolly only be implimented sparingly.

lets turn it to almost like WW2 online. make manable troops so Ten of us can run to the map room, and or we can jump out of the C47 or M3 or Ltv2 to enemy base's and kill the troops running in...lol

I like that idea...

In another post I added to an idea about convoys, which would work like cvs except they are made of a bunch of vehicles.  You could spawn troops from there....

Dropping from a c47 would be extremely cool.  I just have been daydreaming things.... it would be awsome to be slowly floating to the ground while hell is breaking out all around you-planes dogfighting, c47s getting shot down, ack firing at you...

If the ability to become a paratrooper is added, I would like to see the whole hook up and equipment check process that happened just minutes before a jump.  I liked in Medal of Honor: allied assault spearhead the first paratrooper jump, except it was way to short, and it was single player.

Inside planes, I would like to see some great turbulence/vibration effects.  When flak hits a bomber, I believe it should rock wildly, and sometimes the planes should vibrate very faintly, almost like a stutter, because of turbulence.

What id really like to see is more gun/trigger choises.

Like primary, secondary like we have now and some more options for the planes that has more than 2 types of guns.

Yes i guess so...its cool the way a tank turret can fire machine guns or shells, but in the 40s i don't think they had many different firing modes unlike some of our m-16s today which can fire burst, single shot, or grenade launcher.

Exactly what do you mean by different gun choices? I mean what kind of other firing modes are you thinking of?

I think he means rather than just primary (MGs) and secondary (Ord, troops, cargo) it would work another way.

Like...

Main Gun - Joystick (Button)1

2nd Option/Slot (You could assign different things, rockets, bombs) - Joystick2

3rd Option/Slot (same as above ) - Joystick3

etc..

Like that?

yes something like that rutilant and no acepilot we do not have it

Nuther example

190A5:

Primary fires MG 17's.
Secondary fires MG-FF ....AND.... MG 151/20, you can't choose which of these to fire. You either fire both cannon types or none.

Ahhh i see what you mean...however, you can still drop bombs with button 2, but you cannot fire different types of machine guns.
