will I hear the sounds of other planes in AH?

I guess you won't since the only thing pilots generally hear (beyond radio chatter) is the drone of their own engine.

OTOH, it'd be REAL cool if the next generation sims incorporated ambient sound while you're in the tower or sitting idly on the runway.

You mean thing's like planes buzzing by, taking off and air raid sirens?

I used to enjoy the "engine start" sounds in AW.

What I would REALLY like is a cool engine start sound with backfires and all that, for 10 or 15 seconds, while cylinder head temp works up to normal.  Try to apply full throttle before oil pressure and cylinder head temp are up, and you pork the engine.

Would add a bit of "immersion", and prevent instant die/fly field defense.

Yeah, I can't say I wouldn't enjoy the sound of a starter cartridge firing when I 'press E' followed by a few nice puffs of smoke from my exhaust stacks as my prop slowly turns up.

In the "few" hours I have, I have NEVER heard another aircraft.  The ONLY thing I have heard is the DRONE (very load) of my own engine and prop.  Maybe if idle and feather, but at cruise?

The dopler of other aircraft in other sims, ruins it for me.

Ok, here is my unscientific, but several thousand hours of a crewman in the Navy opinion.

Not once did I ever hear another aircraft's engines while flying, even in close formation.

I flew on A-3s, P-3s, C-121's and C-12s.  Never when flying and having other aircraft fly by, or if we did a fly by did I ever hear the drone of another aircraft.  Even when having F4J's and F14s go by did I hear their jets.

So I dont believe it should be there.

I would like to hear the other aircraft only when I am in the chute or on the ground with the engine off.

So AH should just have this huge white noise to simulate other planes not going by?

Sure.  It's called engine noise.

I read a story of a guy in a Pee47 who had a 190 close in on his wounded bird and the guy claimed he actually heard the 190s cannon shooting at him (hint hint
