Don't normally partake in the "Perk the (fill in the blank)" discussions, but looking at the K/D on Innominate's page, I noticed something interesting:

Model      Kills      Deaths      Kill%      Death%      K/DRatio
Me 262   1129    149           0.62       0.08            7.53
Tiger I     4686    932           2.57       0.51            5.02
Tempest  405     103           0.22       0.06           3.89
Me 163B  300      87            0.16        0.05          3.41
F4U-4      319      97            0.18       0.05            3.26
F4U-1C   2899   1045          1.59       0.57            2.77
Ostwind  9259   3950         5.09       2.17            2.34

Ta 152H  269     126            0.15      0.07            2.12

Out of all the vehicles with a K/D greater than 2, the Osty is the only one that isn't a perk ride.  Just food for thought...

Its also the only non-perk ride that can hit a moving aircraft farther than 1.0 out, yet aircraft can kill GVs from farther out than that via rockets and bombs.

Personally, I've never had much luck in an Ostwind.

As long as pilots believe they can kill an ostwind with .50s and lower, the ostwind will always have a high K/D ratio.  It should... it was designed to shoot down aircraft.  Now take a peek at its record against Panzers.

LOL. A 2+ K/D ratio in an Ostwind can come w/o firing a shot, with the number of planes that will pancake trying to get you.

Given how easy it is to disable the turret with MGs, I don't see that the Ostwind is that Uber.

It's only effective against soft targets like buildings, planes and lightly armored vehicles like the M3.  Try using an Ostwind against a Panzer or Tiger I and all you'll do is piss off the tank.

problem i have with ostwinds is that some people can snipe you at 2k+ in the middle of a dogfight. i die from ground ack and ostwinds more then anything and not because i auger or do alot of jabo, but because people are just so damn accurate with man ack and ostwinds.

Ostwind is an awesome killer in the right hands, unfortunately not mine!  Considering its awesomeness and the fact that only about 70 were produced in WW2, charging 8 - 10 perks for one seems reasonable.

The perk system has nothing do to with numbers deployed or rarity of vehicle during the war.  It's strictly based on game balance and the Ostie doesn't have an adverse effect on game play, so that's why it's not perked.

Or knock the treads off, which has happened to me numerous times in a Panzer.

Akak & anyone else who's interested,

I'm going to start a new thread discussing why things are perked, and comparing the stats for some perked & unperked planes & vehicles.

Looking at the stats, there are some things that don't make sense to me.

But first I have to eat dinner.

Which just turns the panzer into a pill box that's pissed off.  Now the M8 on the other hand can kill a Panzer and a Tiger, just have to do the Quake thing and circle strafe :D

Why not just search the AH boards for the post that was left explaining why things are perked or better yet, just write HTC for clarification.  No need to waste our time and yours by posting yet another 'Perk' thread.

You know akak, you're right.  :D   In fact, you're so right I'm not even going to bother HTC about it.  Instead, I'm going to use that time wisely and climb to 25k in a B-17 and bomb someone.
