Say in that something is "FISHY" is the most assanine diddlying statement I have seen. For gods sake man she is diddlying 15, do you have any idea how much control a person can have over someone at that age? The psychological trauma of just being taken away from your family would be debilatating, not to mention having a gun in your face while god knows what was done to you. FISHY-----gimme a diddlying break.

Don't ruin this thread with your negativity.  She is VERY lucky to be alive.  Perhaps if we all had Doctorates in Human Psychology we would be as enlightened as you.

I do believe it will be many years before she recovers from the psychological trauma-maybe never.  Shes probably twice as messed up as guys who were tortured in N. Vietnam.

assanine------- give ME a diddlyin break.

That is because you have no idea about the psychological impact of a hostage and kidnapping situation. Not fflaming just making a statement. Try doing a search for the "stockholme syndrome" and read about what happens to those who are in a hostage situation for an extended time.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

"Fishy" isn't the term I'd use, but there is something not quite right with her decision making.  I agree with what you are touching up here, BEVO.  I knew a little about the case, but only learned today she was 14 and now 15 during all this.  Just think, in just one-year she'll be on the roads and I hope she has a mind of her own to make the right decisions there.  I'll be very interested in learning about the circumstances that were so strong that didn't have her seeking her freedom.

You guys are truly weird. We are talking about a 14yr old girl, kidnapped from her own home. Held captive by two mentally disturbed persons for several months, probably being sexually abused (the guy had her for a wife remember) and you are talking about her ability to drive a car and make desicions on the road in one year?

Disgusting.

The point about her driving in a year is that yeah, she's young, but she aint THAT young. This element of the case - her mental state impairing her ability to flee - is just damn fascinating... and is emerging as *the* part of the story that people are getting the most curious about. It's the one part  that will land the family the exclusives and production deals. We're talking that whole Patty Hearst mind-diddly thing. I'm glad she's safe, but I also don't think it's disgusting to wonder about what was going through her head. Ya gotta admit, it's just odd... and nobody should feel like a shmuck for wondering about it. Nobody is blaming the kid.

In my opinion 16 years old is too young to drive a car, nevermind 'adult' decisions :D

I'd rather let 16 year old drink beer legally than drive a car..  (hey, they do that already! but driving underage is bit harder!)

Often because they have kids to the abuser and are afraid of the social stigma of being a single mother coupled with the fact that it will be hard to find a bloke who is willing to take on the children.

There are many reasons, and every case is very idiosyncratic.

more good news in a simular story.

here in Oregon we had the first use of the 'amber alert' system.  a little girl was taken from her parents in southern Oregon (thursday morning), within a few minutes the alert was activated and they where interupting TV and radio programing with the info (we got the warnings here in Portland and we are about 300 mi away)  anyway her discription went out everywhere and she was back with her parents in just a few hours.

if you don't have this in your area see what you can do to get it.  we need this system nation wide.  there is a bill for a nation wide system now but it's being held up in congress because it has been attached to other legislation.  this needs to be separated from any other issue so it can stand on it's own merit and be passed asap.

I am disgusted by the idiotic radio talk shows around here and their stupid spin on this story.

"There must be more", "Why have the Smarts stopped talking?" "did she run away?"

I turned them off....

(had Amber alert in California for a while)

gotta agree with you on that MT.  maybe they stopped talking because the haven't seen their daughter in almost a year and they are TALKING TO HER.

the cameras and microphones need to be taken out of these peoles face and let them enjoy their reunion.  they can contact the media when they have something to say.

im kinda with you BEVO on this..there IS something kinda screwy about the whole thing.. I know that if she were conditioned or brainwashed, her responses would probably have been programmed, but I think the whole mother/father dynamic is just sorta odd. I can't articulate exactly what it is, but something is up that they aren't telling us yet.

The fact is this "poor" girl is a feeking idiot. Now before you flame me check this out.The police stopped these people. They held up a poster they had of her and asked her if she was Elisabeth. She said no.They compared and the officers on the scene all agreed she WAS Elisabeth. She continued to deny she was. They finally said everyone in the squad cars and only after getting her in the car alone and asking again did she humbly say some crap like,"Thou has said."  Now I know the Mormons have this rosy outlook on things, but this is rediculous. What really gets me is all this "This is the first time so many people prayed for someone bla bla bla and it worked." Ok,but where was God when she was taken?9 months ago.Mormons.Really weird people.Think Donny and Marie.Grinning through life like idiots.  Ok flame on:rolleyes:
