Fun Things to do in Chicago?
« on: March 13, 2003, 05:16:33 PM »
A couple of friends of mine are headed to Chicago for a vacation, and are looking for interesting/fun things to do.  Any Chicago locals have any good suggestions?  Museums, Art Galleries, Theater, anything really.

Just visited my Uncle last month...

did Sears tower, and Italian food down on Taylor Street. Trefanos, I think was the name of the restaurant. Great food.

There are several districts in CHI that have great bars.  This is as good a guide as any I have seen:  http://www.timeout.com/chicago/bars.xml
Lincoln Park pretty much rules.

Basically you take the El to one of these areas and get out and walk from bar to bar.  When the bars close you ask a local where some afterhours places are or you take the El back to wherever you are staying.  It's a great city for drunk people.

The area around Wrigley is really nice.  Between drinking and eating and the ballgame, you can burn a whole day there.  Go back home for a shower and a nap, then hit the bars.  :)

Chicago for vacation? HAHA!

Heh nevermind, its a nice town.  Check out some of the museums.

Museum of Science and Industry, Shed Aquarium are two examples.

OH look for a small place called "Flash Taco."  One of the best small taco shops down there :D  It is dinky, but guaranteed to give your bellybutton some propulsion.

Go up top the Sear's Tower and drop a few pennies :)

You'll LOVE the Illinois drivers.  Don't be surprised if you see a few cabs parked haphazardly on the sidewalk. :)

[EDIT:  ALSO, be sure to call everyone a FIB... they'll appreciate it.]

Soul Food Cafe Owner: Yeah.
Elwood: I'll have some toasted white bread please.
Soul Food Cafe Owner: You want any jam on that honey?
Elwood: No ma'am, dry.
Jake: Have you got any fried chicken ma'am?
Soul Food Cafe Owner: Best damned chicken in the state!
Jake: Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
Soul Food Cafe Owner: You want chickens wings or chicken legs?
Jake: Four fried chickens and a Coke.
Elwood: And some dry white toast please.
Soul Food Cafe Owner: Ya'all want anything to drink with that?
Elwood: No ma'am.

Hey I'm an Ex-FIB..........bad driver cheesehead boy :D

While in Chicago...

Go to the 95th floor of the Hancock Building for a drink(Bailey's and coffee for non-drinkers), and a great view of Lake Shore Dr, and Navy Pier, my favorite... Meigs Field.
Walk up Michigan Ave. to 900 North, stop for a drink(more Bailey's and coffee.
Eat at Houston's.........have a SeaBreeze(very fresh, very good)
Special treat for special people.....go to the "Redhead Piano Bar", and have a drink(hmm, more Bailey's and coffee for the non-drinker).
Go to the Buddy Guy's "Legends", Kingston Mines, HOB, or Fitzgeralds in Berwyn......they all rock...drink BEER HERE!
Next day eat at Pappadeaux's, and have one of their special lemonades.
Go to Walter Payton's Roundhouse Restaurant, cigar bar, etc...great place.
Lots of places to occupy your time in Chicago...great city!

Last word to the wise........if you see a kegged legged woman, stay away, as she belongs to the cyclops in Milwaukee :D

Thorns......enjoyed being a FIB, and a White Sox, Cubs, Bulls, and BEARS FAN!    NOW Go Ravens!
