FN-FAL, G3, M-14/M1a

Guys, what's your take on these rifles?

What one is the best, has the best sites, best inherit accuracy etc.

Note: I own a Garand and a FAL.  My dad owns a M-14 and a HK-93.   I've fired the G-3 however.

M1 - Probably the most accurate and the best sites.  The 8 round clip is a pain, both to load and to carry.  Too heavy compared to the others.

M-14 -  Suffers from weight.  Nothing really wrong with it, just that the others are better.  And it's just brutal on full-auto.

G-3 -  I never liked the HK's that much.  I don't like the bolt handle being up front and I'm not that big of a fan of the rear sight.  I have friends who are FLEO's and they swear by them.  Dunno, they just never did anything for me.

FN-FAL - The cream of the crop in my opinion.  I've fired thousands of rounds through mine and others and cannot remember a single jam.  Simple to clean.  Decent weight, not too light to aim and not to heavy to carry.  I prefer the .308 to the .223.  I also like the simplicity of the Accurate out to 300 yards with the flip-up rear-sight.  Can easily shoot farther with a scope, but you probably don't need it in most combat situations.  Anyways, I could go on, but that would just be cumulative

you can't go wrong with HK..look at what the world's police/swat/spec teams use..HK.

the FN is very very nice as well,  I've had the FN and HK 91 and if I had to wade into the guts and glass I'd take the HK.

 Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30 are basically smaller, lighter M-14/M1A design in .223 and 7.62x39 respectively.
 A lot of law enforcement and correction departments use them.

 Another plus it that those guns will get banned last. The whole list you've sited, GtoRA2, is banned in NYC and most of it in Kalifornia.

Accuracy:  National Match or Super Match M1A (M14 w/o full auto) will out shoot the other 2 rifles by a factor of 4 or 5.

Price:  FN FAL all the way.  I've got a Belgian and a British FN, still one of the best all round main battle rifles ever made.

Never fired a M 14 but had a Hb Fn-fal for a couple of year, sweet and smooth to fire, but still, G3 is the thing for me, been with me for 20 years soon:D

If you ever have to club someone you will want the FN over the HK. Its way more solid.
Three times in my Army stint I was issued brand new FN Fals.(C1)
They were going through war stocks as they prepared to change over to the M16 and it seemed anytime I got issued a weapon on an assignment it was a brand new still in the grease bag C1.
Something about cleaning all the grease off and having it be brand new for you that makes a gun special when your in the service..
I always thought they should have hung onto some of the Fns..they really were a fine weapon..
Would they take a scope well though? That sliding top reciever cover would seem to me to be a poor place to mount a scope.

I'd go for the FN-FAL - many countries used this weapon as their main choice so it must mean something!

What sort of year are you going for?  The early ones had wooden stock, handle and grip but the later ones had tough plastic instead which reduced the weight somewhat.

The L1A1 SLR in British use was single fire only, but I believe all other FN-FALs were fully automatic.

Actually you can easily make the SLR fully auto. We had an example which was converted incorporating a couple of parts from a L1A2.
But the ones issued to us were still the singles.
