IIRC... aren't almost 100% of french wine grapes grown from plants grafted by american vines? Didn't I read once about a killer desease that decimated the French wine industry?

 I am pretty sure that french grape vines are grafted onto the american(?) grape roots, since roots were affected by the rot, not the whole plant. Hence, the wine is made of genetically french stuff.
