Winter comes tomorrow, guys

New patch delayed the winterized Finland-Russia terrain until tomorrow.  I'm going to put the non-winter version up today (about 2 hours from now), and replace it tomorrow with Winter.  Sorry for delay.

Damn well Guadalcanal was fun while it lasted. I guess we need to get to work on a New Guinea/Rabaul area map now.

! Thanks for the week or so of fun.

Hey Reschke, don't panic, I am working with Okinawa map now and it's becoming very similar than The Great Slot after one month!

Squirrel has created great looking textures to it and the map is becoming HUGE: 512 X 512 miles!

As you can see, I am not oriented only to Finnish-Russian and European wars, I like the Pacific Ocean maps, too, thanks to Terrain Team and Slot map! :D

You must understand that there are many Europeans playing AH and Combat Theater and we want to fight our own battles sometimes, too! There are for ex. about 50 Finnish AH players who wants sometimes kill the Russe with our own signed planes!;)

Reschke, welcome to fight as Russe against us!:D

Here's updated information from Summer FinRus (Sabre, I know you busy now);)

FINLAND - RUSSIA
JATKOSOTA 1941-1944
(CONTINUATION WAR 1941-1944)

Summer FinRus is a historical Eastern Front map between Finland and Russia. The current time is June 1944 and the Russian's GREAT OFFENSIVE against Finland has just begun on the Karelian Isthmus near Leningrad and Viipuri towns.

FIELDS SETUP:
* Bishops (Russian) fields are fields 1 - 38 and fleets 77 and 78.
* Germany (Rooks) fields are 39-53 in the Lapland, 68 in the western Finaland and 75-76 in the Estonia. They have fleet 79, too.
* Finnish (Rooks) fields are 54-67 and 69-74 and they have fleet 80.
* Field 72 is both Lappeenranta (Finns) and Immola (Germans), because they were so near each other. From there you can fly all the Finnish and Germany planes.
* Fields 81-83 are Knights (Sweden) and there are no planes available.

* All the Ports have airfields and all the setup planes are available from there, too.
* All the frontline fields are only for the fighters. Rear fields are for the bombers and the fighters, too.

ROOKS/FINLAND AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 ("Mersu")
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 ("Tykkimersu")
* Hurricane Mk I
* FM2 Wildcat (actually Brewster Model 239 "Bylly Waltteri")
* Junkers Ju88A-4 ("Junnu")
* Douglas C-47A (actually Douglas DC-2 "Hanssin Jukka")

ROOKS/GERMANY AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4 ("Friedrich")
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-4b
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2
* Focke Wulf Fw 190A-5
* Focke Wulf Fw F-8
* Junkers Ju87D-3 ("Stuka")
* Junkers Ju88A-4
* Douglas C-47A (actually Junkers Ju-52 "Tante-Ju")

BISHOPS/RUSSIA AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Lavochin La-5FN ("Lavochka")
* Yak-9T ("Tankoviy")
* Hurricane  Mk II C (actually Mk II B)
* Curtiss P-40B ("Tomahawk")
* Curtiss P-40E ("Warhawk")
* Ilyushin Il-2 Type 3
* Boston III
* Douglas C-47A (actually Li-2 under licence)

SPECS:
* Fuel Burn is set at 1.5
* Down time is set at 30 min for field objects and guns
* All other variables per CT norms

HINTS AND TIPS:
* All the airfields are historical. The little "Backwoods Airfields" don't have normally runaways and hangers. They have plane dugouts, but they  react like hangers and need the same amount of bombs to destroy (1250 kg or 2500 lb). The Rearm pad is other side of the field opposite of the tower.

* Be worth to shoot the trucks and the little fuel barrels in enemy fields, too! For ex. in the trucks are fuel, ammo, troops or even Vodka :-)

* When you are landing to "Backwoods Airfield" you can stop everywhere on the open sand-grass area in the centre of the field and middle of the trees. Be cautious with the trees when landing and taking off! :-)

* The airfileds are marked with a little black crosses to the Clipboard map. Cities and Factories are marked with a little black squares. Ground Vehicle entries are marked with little gray points. You don't need to always keep the red and green guidange lights on!

* There are 14 Tank Battle (TB) Villages near the frontline. They are marked with a red striped circles on the map. The owner of the TB Village is always the nearest airfield. You can stop your tank safe in the middle of the village. In the TB Villages are three 20-30 mm acks and one of them is mannable.

* You can see there are some bridges. They are bombable objects with no affect on gameplay and owned by the nearest airfields. You can't  drive with GV's over the bridges.

SOME HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
* In Northern Finland (called Lapland), Norway and Estonia there were Germans, because Finland and Germany had a common enemy in 1941 - 1944.

* Finland didn't support any political views that were affecting in Germany at the time. The only reason Finland fought beside Germany was the common enemy, Soviet Union.

* The blue svastika sign on Finnish planes is an old symbol from  Swedish Count VonRosen, who presented the first aeroplane to Finnish Air Forces (FAF) in 1918. As you can see, that was many years before the nazis affected in Germany. Nowadays FAF national insignia is a blue/white roundel similar to Finnish military cocarde.

* The Continuation War ended in 4th of September 1944. Both FAF's  fighter pilots and bomber crews made honourable work during those hard day's like all the Finnish 500 000 Soldiers in the front lines. All the Finnish Virtual Pilots like to thank them all for their heroic deeds during the whole Continuation War.

And here's the information of Winter FinRus:

FINLAND - RUSSIA (WINTER)
JATKOSOTA 1941-1944
(CONTINUATION WAR 1941-1944)

This is a historical Eastern Front map between Finland and Russia. The current time is February 1944.

The bombing of Helsinki in February 1944 was an attempt by the Soviet Union to get Finland ask for peace quickly and with harsh terms so it could concentrate on the southern fronts alone. The attempt failed however and Helsinki survived the allied terror bombing with minimal losses compared other axis cities in Italy and Germany.

This February bombing campaign consisted of three big raids in 10 day intervals on 6th, 16th and 26th of February. The bomber force attacking Helsinki was part of the so called "Soviet long range airforces", ADD (Aviatsiya Dalnego Deistviya). It had a strength of 25 air regiments, 500-600 bombers.

During those three February nights this force made 2000 sorties dropping 20000 bombs. About 5% of the bombs hit the city itself. Casualties were 149 civilians killed and 356 wounded. 109 buildings were destroyed and 325 damaged. Soviet losses were about 28 bombers shot down.

Helsinki suffered relatively small losses thanks to fairly modern anti aircraft artillery equipped with fire control radars. Radio intelligence also played an important role. Twelve Bf109G-6/R6 night fighters from I/JG 302 also participated the defence of Helsinki during the last two nights of the offensive.

* Finnish (Rooks) fields are 54-67 and 69-74.
* From Finnish field 70 (Helsinki/Malmi) you can fly also Germany Bf
  109 G6 fighters.
* Fields 77-79 are Knights (Sweden) and there are no planes available.
* All the Ports have airfields and all the setup planes are available from there, too.
* All the frontline fields are only for the fighters.
  In the rear fields both fighters and bombers are enabled.
* In the winter time all the fleets are in the harbours and not usable.

Hi, guys.  It's 1400 local here in Colorado, and nothing yet on the winterized Fin-Russ terrain from Skuzzy.  I've got to go run some errands, and will check on it when I get back.  Sorry for the delay, though I had a good time last night playing in the summer version.

I'll check the ack issue carefully.  Unfortunately, there's still no sign of the winter terrain.  I'll call Skuzzy again today.  Sorry for the continued delay.

Sabre, if you phone to Skuzzy, tell him to check his mailbox: I have done all GV Winter skins to Winter FinRus (Snow Tiger etc.)

And take the Ostwind's and LVTA's away from Winter version, please! Ground vehicles are to both sides:

Tiger 1 (winter camo)
Panzer IV (summer/winter camo)
M-16 (winter camo)
M-8 (winter camo)
M3 (winter camo)

The Axis both Finns and Germans captured Russian fighter fields are:

A1-A8, A12, A22-A26. There must be all the Finns and Germans fighters to rooks.

The Axis both Finns and Germans captured Russian bomber fields are:

A7, A8, A12 and A22-A25. There mus be both the Axis bombers (Ju 88 and Stuka) to rooks.

I send to Skuzzy the "preset" plane setup what I have done! Maybe you can use it!;)
