Throttle problem in IL2 FB.
« on: March 15, 2003, 09:52:04 AM »
I just this game and it seems the engines have no power. Apparently even if the onscreen dispays states MW50 and 110% power the radiator doors cannot close on BF109s so I doubt its getting full throttle.   Any AH FB owners having the same problem?

not at all, especially in 109's.  I keep blowing their engines up :D  I'm more dangerous to me than the enemy!

I'd say check your prop pitch.  If you've got MW50 that means your flying the G10, G14 or K4.  Do you have auto prop pitch on? Those planes had it.  You have to push the button twice though at first.  The first time puts you at 100% prop pitch then second press turns on autopitch.  Then it acts like a togle.  If you were set to like 50% pitch then turned on autopitch, when you turn it off you go back to 50%  Depending upon what your rpms were at the time, this could be like shifting from 1st gear to 5th gear in a car.  Also in the G10 and later becareful about going over 100% throttle. Make sure to turn on mw50 BEFORE you get to 100% You will fry the motor fast if you use more than 100% throttle without the cooling effect of the mw50.

Have you flown the 109E yet?  It's like driving a sports car with all the prop pitch shifting you have to do to keep the rpms under 3000 :D

Yeah watch the rpms. I at first was trying to get all the rpms I could changing supercharger and prop pitch thinking... hell, I'm  not sure what I was thinking.

They get real slow after you overrev them.

Read up on the message boards on how to operate the diffrent fighters/engines.

I turned off the complex engine managment for now.. That Thing i dont understand is why the radiator doors dont close up at full throttle. This suggest tom me that its not actually full power.

Why would you expect radiators to shut at full throttle?

MW-50 is working automatic IF YOU "ARM" THE SYSTEM!!
press the "W" key, your system is now "Armed" not "active" that means its NOT "working": actually injecting MW. That means as long as you fly below 100% throttle MW50 will not be injected.
If you're reaching Notleistung or Sondernotleistung (more then 100%) water methanol is injected. As soon as you go below 100% the system will stop the injection and visversa (but its active and stay this way until you switch it off again).

Ok however to prefend engine damage you have to "ARM" the system BEFOR your reaching high ATA levels. You can switch it "ARMED" when you started your engine running on idle or below 50%.
Switch it OFF if you have no MW50 leftor it may cause some damage. You have around 10 minutes on MW50 though.

But that doesnt means you can run your engine 10 minutes on Sondernotleistung!

Hope that helps

I dont have the final jet so I cant check on the reported G10 "bug".

PS. Sorry for my confusing English

Regards
Dietger

What ya need to do is before you get to fuel throttle is "arm" the mw50 (wep/boost button; default is w) then when you adavance the throttle past 100% mw50 will automatically be injected.

Agreed Dietger, except for running time.
MW-50 should be usable for 10 minutes with pauses at a lower boost setting for at least 5 minutes between use. MW-50 tank contains enough mixture for about 30 minutes of use (75 l tank, 150 l/h consumption). Please note that MW-50 use also increase your fuel consumption, so use it sparingly if you are deep inside ennemy territory...

On the jug it would appear that "water injection" is automatic above 100% throttle but can be manually turned off by using the wep/boost button.

Some serious problems with mw50 atleast in the g10.

FYI

Flying the 109 emil on full real CEM

6.1km@970PS@2300rpm@1.15ata

The above are from the 109e manual that butch provided

What this means is keep rpms down especially in a dive. Above 3k rpms the emil will heat up then sieze up in 15 sec giving the eng inoperable msg.

Its important to remember to set the prop pitch to 50% (course; 100% being fine) at the start of your dive then reduce back to 0 as your rpms climb. But depending on the length of your dive just adjusting prop pitch wont keep you from over revving the eng. You will need to reduce ATA as well (throttle).

As you pull out its a bit tricky to figure the correct settings to maintain energy as you level out. The important thing is that in the emil you never want to be above 3k rpms.

After Krugar and I did a coop and I burnt my eng up chasing a bad guy I got pissed. I tried to ditch but the freaking trees reached up and snatched me out of the air.

Ended up with 5 kills in a df room no deaths afterward. The emil is my favorite 109 too bad it sucks bellybutton in AH.

Some problems with CEM as well

The rad flaps close all the way on the gustavs and k4. You must be leaving rad control in auto. Cycle through until its says rad flaps closed.

In Il2 (original) the rad flaps closed automatically when you went to full throttle, is this not the case in FB?

Gruen for good CEM flying you will need to map a bunch of buttons.

but dont forget fuel mixture

in 109s set fuel mixture to 120% for take off

drop to 100 till 2500m then 80

But you test this yourself at certain alts start at 100 then reduce by 20. Be at a constant ata and rpm setting as you reduce you wont the lowest setting without rpm drop.

Also on all the 109s except the emils you can set auto prop control by pressing shift 0 (default) twice.

I have rpm mapped tp a rotary nob and you get better performance manually adjusting prop pitch.

To operate mw50 follow the above post.

But remember if you run out of mw50 you will burn your eng up in seconds.

fyi magnetos you should have both selected or you wont get fuel power.

IIRC its was temp controlled, hotter engine, radiator is more open.

Grun, enable CEM and a rotary for prop pitch and take up a 109E in quick mission without nme, and just fly around.

Check out how you have to use it, watching rpm all the time. Dive, turn, slow down etc...

That's about a good learning curve in itself.
