These rants on channel 1 will have undoubtedly been seen by newbs...  These rants will have also interfered with newb's questions.

Players have been removed due to their channel 1 presence in the past...  maybe it will happen again...

As annoying as it may be, there are currently no rules dictating what can/cannot be discussed on channel 1.  The squelch feature is there for this reason.

When I first started playing AH I squelched channel 1 on entry, simply because I couldn't deal with the avalanche of text

Then I thought to myself that since I was counting myself a member of the AH community, it was about time I started participating.  What was the point of closing yourself off to the conversations with that larger community?  So, a couple of months ago, I started not squelching channel 1.

What a huge mistake that was.  It's not just the avalanche or racial and national slurs, and the constant stream of more garden-variety insults ("Hey 109.  You suck!").  Lately it's been, as pointed out, the pointless political "discussions" (i.e. the creation of another topic through which you can refine your insult vocabulary), but the noobs who don't want to learn who abuse everyone in sight, and the noobs who do want to learn but get nothing but smartass answers to even their very good questions.

So, lesson learned.  No more channel 1 for me.  And I would agree completely with Skurj that it should be squelched as a default, because for a new player Channel 1 at the moment is about the worst advertisement for this game and its "community" that there is.

You know you guys are as bad as the people suing McDonalds because it made them fat.  Give it a rest!!!!

You can squelch channel 1, but that is not good enough, you have to remove liberties from everyone because you can't deal with it.

Yes some people get out of hand and can be down right rude, so what, get over it.  Seek them out and shoot them down, vulch them off the runway, but quit crying.  With all do respect you sound like a bunch of babies.  He called me this, he said something rude, he is teasing me, I'm telling hi tech.   whaaa whaaa whaaaa.

Me I laugh my prettythang off at all the people that get sucked in by the losers on channel one.  Be the bigger person and just ignore it!  And if you can't deal Squelch it, but leave the rest of us alone.

I like Ch. 1 for conversations with pilots I've known for a long time that fly for another country.  I just ignore the other banter on there. If it gets too overwhelming, then sometimes I do squelch it.

Doctor, it hurts when I do this....

Channel 1 is what it is(profound, I know);)

Your not gonna change it. If you complain to those that annoy you they will simply get worse. The only thing that can affect channel 1 is a decision by HTC to reprimand and then mute targeted players. Does HT p*ss off some of the paying customers to appease some others? That's a sticky mess that I doubt he wants to get into. Squelch is a benign solution that works well...

I mean you gotta understand that the internet is a place where folks can attempt to acheive their little ego victories with aggressive speech and not worry about any negative consequences (like an arse whoopin'), so there's always going to be a percentage of the population that shows their maturity and shoots their mouth off whenever possible.

Let it go man, there are plenty of other things to stress about;)

A hit on the ol' bong before logging in might help:cool:

Do you folks attempt to control your wives, girlfriends, family etc. when they don't do what you like? (I know, this IS a cheap attempt at a childish ego victory:D)

We should have a ch 1.5 for 's and such...  Those are a good thing, and missed if u squelch.  1.5 needs to be unsquelchable, but also under THIGHT surveillance by the thought police for any non-flying stuff.

Then free up ch 1 as the "gay liberal french-bashing teenage-politician"-channel.  I belive they (I) will ALWAYS need a way to express themself (myself), toilet walls available or not...  So let them have a channel.

i find chan 1 worth the 14.99 monthly charge on its own for the broad base of opinions that it offers.  This could be construed as being an education by learning that your opinion is not always the same as everyone elses.

I never squelch chan 1, just mindless individuals who are beyond any mental help.   :D

There is a real opportunity here for HTC to create a third game that costs way more than it's worth but in the process keeps the mental midgets from paying and playing. I mean why does a person go to an expensive restaurant? partly because the high prices keep the riff-raff out;)

Whenever I go camping on the lake I always pay for the $20 per night camp areas so I don't have to worry about the rednecks in the site next to me getting drunk and at 2AM vomiting in my Coleman stove...but I digress

We could call it AH2: (fill in the blank)

This is all true.  However, since the Internet is, as you point out, so full of places where people can be a dickhead, the question is, why do they feel compelled to do it here?  Just because you can do it somewhere doesn't mean that you should do it everywhere (OK, sex may be the exception to that statement, but you get the point!).

I don't advocate extra muting or anything like that.  As many people point out, we have the squelch command (soon to be supplemented with a personal squelch list???).  But we also shouldn't pretend that this kind of behavior doesn't have any consequences, or argue that the "problem" is with the people who get annoyed by it.

Because one of the things I've noticed recently, and this is new, is that what I used to think of as typical channel 1 behavior is now spilling over into the country channels.  I don't know what it's like in rook and knight land, but if you're a bishop, god help you if you're new to the game and ask a reasonable question (I'm not talking about the people who haven't bothered to glance at the help files; even they, however, probably deserve a little more courtesy than they usually get): if you ask for help you will get crapped on from a great height; if you are lucky, you'll get maybe one person who will give you a good answer and 5 people who will try to impress you with their text-phallus.  I'm not sure people who have been on here for a while remember what a steep learning curve this thing has, even if you are coming from box sim world.

BTW, what happened to the trainer option that we had to help people new to the game?  Did that just disappear?

Its almost like the game needs a persistant squelch/ignore feature. A radical concept, I know. But ground breaking ideas are my thing.

Doing the .squelch 6, .squelch 1...and on most nights .squelch 2 if we had it...at every login brings these sorts of "killer" ideas to the fore though, you know. Just don't let the big guns like Verant, Mythic, Turbine, EA, etc know or they'll all be doing it too!

...er, wait, nevermind that.

Well, I guess its cause saving those little texts files from one session to the next is HARD, you know...and then you have to load them again and everything. Sheesh! Fella wants a holiday just thinking about it.

....hmm, maybe if we used VB?
