Point taken, was not pointing names at individuals but cannon armed AC. Which was stated in the poll, it was not at any group or any individuals. Do I like 1 hit wonders? No, do I think you should work for a kill? Yes, am I wrong here? No, there has been a misunderstanding on both parties. So you learn something new here, people get offended when a weapon gets called a name. LOL its funny but I didn't know people got so irritated because of it. OK poll revision number 3

Sturm,

The lesson that apparently has not been learned is that these aircraft don't kill anything. The pilots pointing them at another target do. All of these planes are equally lethal sitting side by side on the tarmac.

How are aircraft called a "dweeb" anything without having that reflect on the people flying them?

So.. you think that people should have to work for their kill. That's fine. Go up against more cannon armed planes and you'll work even harder.

Well, the problem is that the .303 armed aircraft couple comparatively weak firepower with poor performance in all areas besides turning.

Look at the C.202 for an existing example.

HTC could, with little effort, give an 8 .303 option for the Spitfire MkV so that we'd have the Va and Vb options. Care to guess how often it would get used? There IS a reason that the British added cannon to the Spitfire.

Well I use the A5 and when I run out of cannon amo i ahve around 1300 rounds of 7.9mm left do I RTB? Never if you get behind someone's 6 and pepper them and get a constant stream into the engine or wing they will go down. Easy fix make them worth less and more of an incentive to fly and get kills in.

Yup, it's fun to watch all those sparkley hit sprites when you fire the small cal guns.

I've found I can do ok with only 4 50's on the P51b. I get in closer and go for the good shot.

I prefer to fly planes with the 50 cals, but that's just my preference, not a complaint!

I would love to see more of the non cannon armed planes myself.. It would limit the spray and pray mentality somewhat because you would have to get in REAL close to do something fatal.

Now I would not fly these aircraft cause I'm a pony flyer of the 4 gun variety.. I have flown the 202 and gotten kills. I've alos flown the spitfire and fired with only 303s and gotten kills.. it's easy to do you just have to get VERY close to your target.

I think I'm still packing the same .303s in my SpitV that I started the month with. The ground crew hasn't even bothered to swab the barrels since they haven't even been used.

Oh, that's not true, I found a goon the other day, slowed behind him and let him have 1200 rounds of .303, point blank.. good thing I had some 20mm left to finish the job.

I actually take the .303s in preference to the 50 cals when I fly a Spit IX. I know the 50s are better, but the quintessential Spitfire armament, to me, is 2 20mm cannon and 4 .303s. It is also the best looking when the Spit fires. That is, in fact, the biggest reason I want the Spitfire F.MkXIVc, so that I can have my 2 20s and 4 303s on it.

Sometimes I fly the seafire (surprisingly good plane BTW) off the CV and the 303s are very nice to get ppl turning and get them slow so I can catch up and open fire with the cannons, plus they make that wierd 303/7.92mm gun sound, which I kinda like.

Grunherz do you have Mitsu's Spitfire gun sounds? They are synched to the rate of fire and it's really cool.

I use the 303s that way as well. I have also used them to convince somebody that I was out of cannon ammo.
