Squaddie's Vox Problems...
« on: March 20, 2003, 05:33:18 PM »
Skuzzy:

One of my squaddie's (shovelhd) has been having vox problems for the last month.  It's been quite a strange one.  For some reason he cannot hear anything in AH Vox.  His game sounds are fine.  On top of that we can hear him transmit with no problem.  He just can't hear us transmit to him at all.  No cutting in or out, just silence.

We are trying to help him isolate the issue.

A couple of questions-[list=1]
  • is AH using DirectPlay Voice for in-game vox communications?  If so which of the DirectPlay Voice topologies are being used? - Forwarding Server, Mixing Server, or Peer-to-Peer?
  • Which of the vox codecs does AH Vox use?

Thanks for any help or info you might have.

I would suggest he go offline to sound recorder and record and listen to his own voice, chances are he won't hear anything there either. It is probaly 1 of the sliders is all the way down in the sound properties. Longshot but maybe will work

SNO:

Thanks for the tip.  He's tried that already and the vox works in sound recorder, just not in AH.

Don't have the system specs but I'll ask him to post them.  He's tried WAV in and it hasn't changed anything.  Keep in mind that:

(1) He hears all his game sounds just fine.
(2) We can hear him just fine when he transmits so his mic, recording, encoding etc are all working.
(3) He can't hear anyone transmitting to him.
(4) It was working fine a month ago.  We haven't been able to isolate the change that might have caused things to go south.

The newest wrinkle to it all is this (really really bizarre) -  We found out that his AH Vox works just fine in the TA, DA, but it doesn't work in the MA or SEA!  Whacked.  One thing I've noticed, it appears that the different arenas use different UDP ports for vox coms.  Maybe something is blocking specific UDP ports?
