Il-2 Forgotton Battles is quite nice...
« on: March 21, 2003, 07:03:49 AM »
... ok, it's bloody amazing. :)

I just wish I had a better machine. My 1.2 GHz Athlon, Geforce2 64MB, 512 MB RAM set-up really creaks. I've got it set at 1024x768x32, but it's a little bit jerky.

Any tips on getting the frame rates up? Anybody got an Saitek X-36 profile they could point me to?

Cheers. :)

BTW, they just need to have a Cinemaware kind of storyline running alongside the dynamic campaign and they'd have the best single player game in the world, ever.

works on Duron 800 MHz, 640 MB, GeForce 2MX.

Unless you find yourself over big city, that is.

Greatest feature, IMO, is bullet hit option. You can see the hit and penetration. .50 cals are becoming notorious for leaving the plane fly, but killing the pilot almost every time.

Win98 SE. I'm using DirectX 9, my drivers are the detonator 30.82 I think. They are the most up to date drivers for my Hercules Prophet II card anyway.

I love that open topped, 'Catch the Pigeon' style Ruskie bomber. The BT-3? :)

Hristo,

When I shoot them with .50cal, they tend to often blow up.
I was all the joy when I got from Hurri I to Brewsters in the Finnish campaign.
Instead of pinging uselessly the rear of certain planes with all the ammo, I found them blowing up before me. :D

Anyway.. how do you activate the bullet hit thing?

Your bottle neck is your card...

A geforce4 mx 460 would help a bunch...

(cheap card)

the old geoforce 2 is a great card but really showing its age....

exp:  when I had a 1000mhz duron and upgraded from the geforce 2 to a geoforce 4 4200 it was like night and day..

Recently my 4200 cooked and I bought a ATI 9100 (cheap card) upgraded my 1000mhz duron to a 1.67 ghz XP 2000..

Best $104 dollars ive spent in a while...

to say the least im happy with my upgrade...  1942 under the duron would slow down..  now with 670mhz upgrade with increased cache on the cpu really makes a difference.

2 jumpers on my board to switch from 200mhz bus to 266mhz...  went from a 1000mhz to 1.67ghz....

sorry to rant on...this is the type of upgrade i like no BS....

your card is the bottle neck..  Tomshardware.com has a good article on about every processor combination with video card out there... including old cards like the riva 128 monster 1 etc...

Check it out i helped me with my upgrade...

2 cents,

In the mean time i would adjust you color from 32 bit to 16 bit...  the graphics should get a increase due to the fill rate being reduced from 32 to 16 bit color...

If you can tolerate 800 x 600 that would help a bunch too...

I have to play at 800x600 to be able to see the damn planes to shoot them down.  I get about the same performance at 800x600x32 as I did at 1024x768x16 btw...   I turn off stencil buffer and then max everything out and it's usually around 30fps I would guess.  In big battles (30+ planes) it does slow down some though.

Hell I haven't hardly played anything online since I got this thing.  The dynamic campain kicks major arse! I really love being able to get lost on the map! and the 109g10 and 14 and k4 absolutely RULE :D

Hehe you are lucky :)

People here look for English version in "one-eyed" stores.

1C, the Russian company that released it here had a major f#$kup, and released the "Beta" version that has bugs including bugs in StarForce copy-protection that make playing impossible, and the version they printed expires in May. Angry customers almos tore Oleg apart :(
