Sorry about the weird headline. See it as a desperate attempt not to drown in war news.

Swoop (or anyone else) I'm having some random lockups. Do you know what this could be related to? Anyone else having this problem? My suspicion is that it is graphics related (just a hunch).

I just bought and installed OPF+Red Hammer+Resistance. I applied the 1.91 patch for Resistance...is that enough?

Now, I need to know how to try these different ww2+vietnam mods.

Help.

Never fear, Swoop is here.
er, (TM).

Have a look at the dir structure of the Op flash directory (under /Codemasters in /program files).  In there you've got a dir called Addons.  Also one called Res, under the Res folder there's a second Addons folder.

Most addons come as a .PBO file, these you can just copy straight into the Addons folder (either, doesnt matter which one) and they'll be available in the game next time you run it.  Some Addons are incompatable with other Addons so try to keep track of what you put in the Addons folder and if you get any errors take out whatever you just put in there.  Also, when you copy a new addon in you may get errors on existing addons, OFP will give you an error message stating the name of the .PBO file that's causing the problem so you can decide whether or not to remove the Addon you just copied in or the one that's incompatable with it.

Some Addons have their own install progs but most of the ones I've seen are kinda crap and require some manual installation cos whoever wrote the install exe is a avacado and shouldnt be allowed near a PC.

Sorry Hort, I cant post ya any links to WW2 sites as I'm sat in a netcafe cos those bastiges at KPN wont install me a phoneline to the new flat until wednesday.

As for the crashing, do you currently have any Addons installed?  if so remove them and try again.  If not then have a look on the http://www.flashpoint1985.com forum / FAQ / troubleshooting guide and if there's no answers for ya try posting on the BBS.  Also, the Avon lady's FAQ is prolly better than the official one, you'll find links to it all over the f1985 forums cos she's a moderator there.

Oh BTW, most addons come with a readme file that'll tell ya how to install......again some of these readme files are written by complete numpties but it's generally just a case of unzipping and copying the .PBO file to the Addons folder.

GL bud.

the usual cyclic of sites:

http://www.theavonlady.org
-- go to her faq.  That has information on how to do everything. It also indicates the really good addon packs (like the vietnam addon).

there's a bunch of other sites, most of them will be linked from there.

http://www.ofpec.com
-- this is the editing site; they get a ton of hits a day.  their community news has stuff pertaining to significant releases.
they've also got a mission review section along with detailed info on where to get the addons.

As for addons -- they go into your codemasters/flashpoint1985/addons folder
there is also a res/addons folder, but you probably shouldn't use that.
there are ways to start ofp with limited addon groups using the -mod extension, check the faq for how to do that.

about addons causing trouble:

this can be for several reasons. sometimes it's because the addon is outdated.  Often it's because the bulk of addons are made by inexperienced and undertalented geeks.
for exampel, good modmakers "tag" their stuff to avoid unintended interactions.  For exampe, instead of making an AK47, the SEB NamPack people, make an object known internally to OFP as the SEB_AK47.  Less scrupulous (=more zits) modmakers will just give it a default tag...

Hey there Steve

I have decided to go back and finish building those 3 Viet Nam missions. However I only have version 1.46 :(... So.. don’t know if it can be played by folks w/ res.

They are really nice though.. You command 80 troops.. (8 to a squad) and no way points for enemy AI.. It’s all triggers for conditions. Say for example, I placed 2 triggers to the north and south call them trigger1 and trigger2. You send some squads north and they hit trigger1. E1 (enemy grp1) goes to trigger1. If 3 of E1 are killed, another trigger tells them to retreat to defensive position. I use a gamelogic. Now E2 is re-enforcements for E1.. they go to gamelogic1 (gl1) Same thing if you send your troops south.. Only now you have a different set of conditions. I’ve done this with all the enemy AI  with over 40 gamelogics. This is really a cool way to design missions because every time you play you get a different outcome. I learned all this from the command engine folks.

I’ve changed around scoring too. For every VC/NVA squad you kill, you receive 50 points. For any ammo catches, maps or documents, or vehicles destroyed.. (gooks don’t got many) you get 100 points.. BUT.. for every squad you command if you have more than 4 causalities, you get 100 points SUBTRACTED.

1st mission you start in a huey inb to lz. Lz is hot.. the 1st 6 of your squads debark. Your primary task is to secure the lz for 2nd group which you must call when ready. Your secondary task is to secure nearby village and collect any maps or documents. any EPWs there questioned for further intel.
Music Cutscene - speech by R Lee Emery “Riflemen’s Creed” from movie “Full Metal Jacket
Music start “InaGoddadavita” by Iron Butterfly. (3 months later in the chopper rock n’ roll baby!)
Battle heats up music drum solo. (pounding heart)
Light at the end of the tunnel - organ solo (whoa! I might live?)
Documents found - Goddadavita end, refrain. (did somebody call Air Cav?)
Special effects - red and white smoke on lz landing. Numerous mortar barrages set to west and  repeat.

A successful mission1 sends you to mission2 BTW if you get wounded any time in mission1 or 2, you get sent right away into if your wounded sequence.. you loose all your command bar, you wake up in a burning crashed huey in middle of the night.. no weapon.. you must find your way to friendly AVAN troops before enemy (they have condition trigger set to find you) finds you.. if they get close another condition trigger makes you put your hands up. They drive the truck close and you automatically go in the back.. now you can eject.. when the truck goes around a slow corner.. But.. the truck stops the enemy troops jump out.. they free to cap your ass. If you stay with the truck and don’t make an attempt to escape.. they throw you into a tiger cage.. mission end.. mission failure!. If however you find the AVAN troops or they find you,.. they take you back to their camp.. mission ends with complete. (I gave you an extra 100 points just for living.. just to balance out how many of your troops you loose on a count of your not being on the battlefield anymore.

Whew! back to mission1 end.. You’ve secured the area captured the documents captured some short little mother ****ers.. set the huts in village ablaze.. mission ends.

Mission2 You start out with 6 squads at the village you “worked” last night.. the EPW let it spill that a large catch of weapons are located up yonder.. hill 63.. your other 3 squads 7 through 10 should be arriving shortly by chopper.  It’s too bad he didn’t also inform you  that units of the 3rd Regiment, 2nd North Vietnamese Army  Division were also dug in near Hill 63....

You’ve got air support with napalm.. medivacs, ammo re-supply drops (with needed law rockets) 80 men.. you oughta be able to do this.
Music start: “Time will come today” Chambers brothers. when sqd 7- 10 arrive.
scary1- Oh **** we got trouble, better call in an air strike!
scary2- Where is everybody? some manic laughing at me
Time will come today refrain - We have captured the hilltop!.
Special effects - numerous mortar, fog, skiptime, flare triggers.

Mission3 is base defense and is waypoint based.. You get shelled pretty good in the beginning. No one to call. This is the morning of Jan 16, 1968...
After successful base defense, you are tasked with finding then destroying the nme artillery that was shelling you.
Music start Riders of the Storm, The Doors and same song by Creed. Opening, jeep driving down a road  looks like rainy day at the base.. in the rear with the gear.. Lets have a beer..
Riders - piano solo - This is more than base being shelled!
Creed - guitar solo - They got Tanks!! (I know Creed came after VN war.. but this part is so cool)
Riders refrain - Base is secure artillery destroyed. Into this house is born baby!.
Special effects Air support from off shore carriers, Medivac, ammo re-supply (including anti tank ordinance)
