...are the moron pro-war ralliers.

Quote
The only speaker who received a hostile reception was N. Ruby Zigrino, a Muslim from Minneapolis. She was initially cheered when she said she supports "ousting a tyrant regime."

But she then read passages from the Qur'an, suggested that a new Marshall Plan will be needed in Iraq, and said administration officials should study foreign-policy failures to avoid repeating them.

Her listeners responded with boos and shouts of "Screw Muslims!" "Screw the Qur'an!" and "Go home!"

What a great idea - alienate even the most moderate Moslems who side on the use of force to remove Saddam.

Yea I know what you mean too many americans are ignorant about other cultures and too dumb. Last night I went to emergeny room to get a tetanus shot after i stepped on a rusty dirty nail and I ended up talkeing with this old mideastern couple.  They looked iranian to me and spoke with an accent so i asked where they were from. They first said from san jose, and i then asked where before that? You could see some apprehension in their eyes and they waited a second before answreing  - persia, as opposed to iran. I can imagine they might have been a bit scared to see big 20 something guy like me in a buzzcut ask them that at 3am.  And thats unfortunate that good folks as they were have to worry about that. :(  Anyway after that we had a nice talk about iranian history for a few minutes before their daughter got out of treatement and they went home. Nice pepople.

Same thing for the iraqis id aimagine i just hate it that we have lost these two fine sophistaced and hitoried people to 30 years of varying tyrants all becuse of the communist degenerates and their idiotic  behavior since ww2.

only a few of the attendees at the rally jeered her.  Still too many, but *much* better than the reception you might get speaking at a peace rally and pointing out what butchers Saddam, Palestinian extremists, and/or say, Castro are.

Still, I say, as I have said all along, that the great majority of Muslims and Arabs are our friends, and our task will be much easier if we get their active help in combatting the extremists among those groups; and educating the simpleminded among us to make relevant distinctions will help greatly toward that end.

Yes, both sides.  The anti-war and pro-war sides.  Both of them.  Two.  The third side, "I could give a crap less", is idiot free.

Every group has one...

After 9/11, one of the local radio stations in Philadelphia ran a rally/humanitarian run where people came down and donated money, canned goods, clothing, supplies for firefighters, etc... a van pulled up with 4-5 Muslims inside (turbin's and all) and opened the rear - which was FULL of supplies and goods, and some ****ing moron went up and punched one of them as he was being interviewed.

City of Brotherly Love my ass... some really mean/stupid people in this godforsaken town.

Man.. if only they'd rioted, shut down traffic and trashed her car.

Freedom of speach vs vandalism.  I don't think you know what the opposite end of the spectrum really is.

I don't think muslims wear Turbans. Sikhs do because they aren't allowed to cut their hair for religious reasons.

So not only did the guy punch a guy who was an American trying to help other Americans, he wasn't even of the 'correct' religion.

Ouch...

Just one question: What was the guy saying at the time he was punched?  I ask because I remember a similar situation in NYC where a certain prince was standing with a check for ten million dollars at ground zero and started to preach about the "whys" of the incident.  I believe the mayor himself delivered an effective enough "slap" (well... just handed the check back to the prince and told him to leave).

I don't like the violence (the punching in the face), nor do I like a "I have bough my right to start slamming all that is America" attitude.  Actually, its one of the reasons I get labeled a fanboi here... people actually feel they are entitled because of $15 to really start tearing into things they don't fully undestand.

Now... let's compare it to what happened in Portland.  People trashed buildings, cars and police vehicles.  Most that were arrested were released the next day and were quoted to the effect of: "As long as the police respond to civil disobedience with force we will continue to protest."  Only a couple of them said they were protesting the war.  Ah... the effects of the proffessional protester.  My mind goes to the old P.C.U. movie where the students had protest plackards with revolving paper rolls so they could write the protest of the day on the sign and then re-use it for a new protest the next day.

When either side resorts to violence... its out of line.  I'm just waiting for someone to present a "masses of these people" type story.

I am not familiar with the story that Mazz related even though I live in Philly. Nonetheless, I am only too familiar with the ignorance of many people here and elsewhere. If this individual was wearing a turban he is a Sikh, not a Muslim. There is a large South Asian community here in Phila. and many of them are Sikhs and wear turbans. The irony of his being attacked while donating food for 9/11 relief is shameful, to say the least, and the fact that the attack was based on a misidentification of his ethnicity just adds insult to injury. Ignorance knows no bounds.

Not defeending the attack dowding... just wanting to hear more than "he punched him".

In one situation, we have a motorist that's driving down the street as people pound on his car.  He gets out and is beaten by the protestors.  I know what happened there.

What happened in this situation?

BTW... you only have to go back to the month after 9/11 to get an impression for the ignorant right on this one.  They're the ones that tried to light mosques on fire.

The basic argument here and pretty much everywhere... mobs vs isolated incidents.  Some choose to feel that the actions of a few represent the view of one side while refusing to do the same with the actions of many on the other side of the fence.

Neither action is acceptable.
