the Uk soldiers is somthing, I learnt to know some of the royal marines, when they was trainging for winter warefear in norway in the 80`s. (even when we tough it was cold and ugly they never gave up)
It was very intresting to see how the struggeled and did what they was supposed to do in -30c, when in UK they was not used to that extreme winter conditions.

Had a good time and been visiting a good friend of mine in UK several years after that training period.

As you say they are very competent and also pretty good in social behaviour asweel, wich is needed for the way wars is fought in our time.

Yep... I belive that the Brits are compassionate soldiers like the U.S. ones.  I belive that the two armies will work very well together.

I liked them. I liked beer. They liked beer. It was a s p e c i a l relationship I will never forget.

ColdStream Guards forever. I wonder if Weatherall or Riley are still in?
Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

to the Royal Marines and their "Whatever It Takes" attitude.

They passed through the stumps once a year when I was out there, if they fight half as hard as they train the iraqis are in some serious trouble.

There was an press conference with a Brit Colonel (Verdon, I believe) the other night that was impressive.  Sounded like he just came from the front lines.  ONe of the best conferences I have ever seen.  HE made a mistake and got the names of two towns mixed up.  He says, "Oh blimey!"  It was funny!

I hope he does more conferences.

The British are doing a incredible job over there.  The guy I am in Estonia with said, "Those Damn Brits are freakin incredible!"  No kidding, I am soooo glad they are on the US side!!

Buddy of mine was on a boomer crew. Said the only guys he ever met abroad that really seemed to enjoy a bar fight were Scottish Marines.

Good thread... thanks to our friends in the UK!

The media here seems to mess up the captioning of their video
clips a lot.  I kept hearing "American troops" when the clip clearly
showed desert DPM and the non-"fritz" style helmets, and of
course the SA-80.  Hope the SA-80 is working alright now,
although rumors are still about to the contrary.

Just a return .

I heard on the Beeb just the other day that we have US platoons under the command of British Officers and British platoons under US command.  I think that fact alone shows just how well integrated our combined forces are.

I'm not in the forces, but I'm sure they'll appreciate your sentiments.

Yeah Swoop. I was really surprised by that.
