New Guns Sound.....need review
« on: February 21, 2001, 04:43:00 PM »
Hi buddies.

Now I'm working on my sound collection.
I updated beta 20mm & 12.7mm guns' sound for spit9 a little while ago.
Please download these sounds and check whether RoF is correct.
 http://ya.sakura.ne.jp/~micchy/244sentai/sounds/spit9.zip

I want your opinion.

if it sounds good, I will add these sounds to my collection.

How about them??

Regards,
-Mitsu

P.S
Here is RoF data of AH Guns which I investigated.

Browning .303
RoF: 1000/min

Browning Cal.50 M2
RoF: 800/min

Hispano Suiza Mk.II 20mm
RoF: 650/min

If you don't mind bad Mitsu, I'd like to have opinions about this P-38 engine sound also
(small thing, why not to have one thread..)

Sounds to me like someone needs to start a wav sample review magazine.

Fishu, I like the P-38 sound, but it's got to much bass for my sound system (dual 150watt subwoofers, full surround, bass amp and all that) so I ran it through an equilizer to drop some of the bass out of the sound. Also increased the pitch to suit
my personal tastes, plus added more flange and put it in 8-bit stereo.

It good at mid and high pitch (wep) but it lacks somewhat down at lower pitch. I have a good Packard engine sound that has idle-pitch prop buffet I might try mixing it with later.

May throw it up later to see what ya think but I don't have the time right now.

I'm not into sound authoring but at one point or another I've edited every sound in the AH folder

Mitsu...a while back you posted a link to a few explosion sounds you had made.  I loved 'em, but have since formatted and re-installed and don't have 'em anymore.  You still have 'em uploded somewhere?

Thanks!

SOB,

Though it's a little old version, you can get my sound collection from here.
 http://ya.sakura.ne.jp/~micchy/244sentai/sounds/

Download zips.

Of Corse I'm making new version of it now.

Cheers.

I have idle sounds too, in fact I mixed those up a bit but didn't seem to work so well.. always swapped over some frequencies

The trick to getting the idle speed to work right is to SERIOUSLY up the pitch (2X or greater) before merging with the normal engine sound. It's gonna sound funny of course, but it usually works out at idle.

The idea being, that when the idle pitch playback is being used in AH, it slows down the idle to the point where it comes through the loudest and sounds correct for idle speeds.

Next, you need to equilize it to take out the highest range frequency (this seems self defeating because of the pitch increase, but it works) so the sound doesn't scream when full powered is applied in AH. In other words, so you only get the low end.

Mitsu, the Spit gun sounds are great!

I didn't try that P-38 sound because I use Citabria's sound which is a real P-38 recorded inside the cockpit.
