For the Married Guys...Wife Vs. Mom Discussion
« on: March 26, 2003, 10:13:35 AM »
I need to know I'm not alone on this one.

Does anyone else have a disfuctional family where your wife and your mother just cannot get along?

Now, my mother is psycho. Ever seen 'Everybody loves Raymond...?"

That's my mom. The simple answer...avoid her. The complication? She's the main souce of babysitting for us. We cannot afford a nanny, and my wife and I both work full time to afford our house, etc.

So please, put a smile on my face, because they are at each others throats right now. I'm getting phone call after phone call from both sides here.

Gimme your funny mother in law stories.

Try having an Ex-mother-in-law (read Grandmother to your kids) and a new wife ... both would gladly call out a hit man on the other at the drop of a hatpin.

my mom and My wife both are Rn's and work in the same emergency room.  My mom, like yours is our main babysitter, but lucky for me they get along fairly well, sofar.  For christmas my mother and father-in-law  are sending me to Idaho on a trophy bull elk hunt, on a privet ranch with a guide. :D   Life is good.

Just remember your wife always comes first, things will work out.

My mom and I really started getting along when she realized she is not the number one woman in my life.  We were never bad off, but our realtionship did get way better.  She just realized she no longer had the same influence on me.

Now, getting my mother and my mother-in-law to stop competing, that's something else (still friendly, but could turn south very easily).

My mom-in-law is of...shall we say, a different christian religion than I am.  I doubt they'll ever like me  ;)

To quote, "We would have picked you out for her...if you'd just been *insert religion here*."

:p

Greese: My mom and I really started getting along when she realized she is not the number one woman in my life.

Neither should be. Number one person in man's life is his child. Then a child's mother, then grandparents. Pretty simple line of command.

Pretty easy to resolve who owes whom what - any debts to our parents are paid to our children, no exceptions.

Also the resolution of discussions - our parents had their chance at parenting us, now it's our turn to screw up our children, period.

Very wise statement. Very profound.

I knew I would get good advice here.

Not a wife yet...

But apparently the old saying is true... boy's end up marrying their mother - the two are exactly alike and can talk for hours on end.

Nice change from the last girlfriend - my mother called her a "slut."  Good for me, bad for her.  :D
